Man that site's crappy. I feel used just having clicked it - ad revenue galore!

Greetings, first time poster, recent reader and mainly from another 8-bit scene (um, not the TI one) :-)

You can follow what's been happening in the ti99 yahoo group. Basically the chap who ran the website threw a tantrum and decided he was going to leave the ti99 forever. So he abandoned his projects and pulled down his page. Very, very childish but what can you do?

Apparently there are only a few active developers for the TI in the forum despite having a rather healthy size of 500+ subscribers, so now several are saying what he did wasn't all bad and he wasn't technically doing anything wrong and are jumping on Jon for being an ass and causing this fellow to leave. It may or may not be a copyright violation but it is discourteous and plagiaristic to 1) remove copyright from an image that has been copied 2) fail to credit the original source and 3) not clearly come clean with the source when asked directly about it. I don't think he meant any harm to anyone but what should be kept in mind is that JON IS FINE WITH HIM USING THE IMAGE AS LONG AS ITS SOURCE IS MADE CLEAR ON HIS WEBSITE. Rather than do this one simple thing, he pulled up stakes and disappeared. The retro community is a very friendly and cooperative one. All one has to do is do the right thing and everyone steps all over each other to help one another out. A shame that Jon needs to be badmouthed on that group now but I think all he can do is let the record stand.

BTW, I hope I have your name right Jon :-) Kind of new here.

Yes, it is right: Jon a.k.a. Viejo_Archivero is the one. And my partner at Karoshi Corp.

I fully agree with your words, but this TI guy wanted to become a martyr, and now he is. And apparently the TI community is complaining about Jon's attitude. I think he's been fair and generous in all this subject.

I'm really sorry now, because it seems that several TI guys have decided that Karoshi = MSX = assholes. I don't want to start a systems war now, that time is luckily over now, but it is really sad that we cannot add efforts with the TI guys and try to do something together. We share the same video chip, maybe we could join and produce perhaps a good image editor or something. Nevermind.

Childish reaction, indeed. I read the message than Jon left on that list and it was written in a kind way (given the fact that his work was being used without his permission).

I love tantrums.. Viejo_Archivero was very nice about it however. Maybe he doesn't like to be caught? Anyway... too bad he left... he must have done something fancy to have convert those screens into TI99 screens?

Well he did lose his cool in one post but the TI fellow was pushing him :-) I feel like I'm qualified to be an impartial observer and Jon definitely is in the right and was fine in the way he conducted himself. I can understand the frustration that led to the lapse in cool and everyone should be able to behave like adults and make up afterward.

credit where credit is due... nothing as annoying as seeing something you worked on used without a mention of who did it.
it's not even an issue of copyright infringement, it just hurts a little if someone gets credit for something you put your
time, effort and creativity in.
BUt it's nice that another platform can benefit from the efforts of the msx community,
as the msx community with vortex tracker from the zx spectrum I guess.

Some good news for 99ers. sometimes is back online with his demos and its even more demos now than before the issue with the gfx. Great to see him back and no hard feelings I hope.
