I recently stumbled onto some really cool games from Infogrames:
- The Light Corridor - A very cool 3D game in which you have a tunnel ahead of you to which you should advance with a ball. The ball can be hit with a bat. The tunnel is full of obstacles. Pros: really good and fast gameplay and good music. Cons: monocolour and it takes a while before you figure out how to set it to normal joystick control
- North & South - A strategy game a la Risk, with a real time battle mode! Really cool! Cons: multiloading tape... Pros: very extensive game, with intros, musics and demos.
- Illusions - A game featuring typical Escher-like structures. The idea seems to be to let the blobs collide. Move them by SHIFT, SPACE (move up and down) and cursor UP/DOWN (change direction). Quite original!

These games are definately worth checking out.

I'm a fan of Infogrames games too!. Be sure not to miss Hostages or Mystical, both are nice games!

Wowsers!! i did not nknown there was a north and south game for MSX.
I played it thousends of times on my Amiga with my brother, because i thought there was no msx version!

I've checked several of the Infograme games, and I still remember playing the "l'Affaire" game on MSX2 which impressed me, TNT also which disappointed me as basically a plain shoot-them up (with nice graphx and sounds though): it's got little to do with the Konami style but they are actually quite interesting in another way, I almost forgot them. It's just another touch, still nice ideas and coding. Quality games.

I am surprised to find out that games like 'Mandragore' or 'l'héritage' that were real hits in early 80's on French specific platforms (MO5 / TO7) had been converted to MSX! To me, there are worlds between the approaches to computer gaming!

Mystical, North & South, Hostages and The Light Corridor were developed by Infogrames, but the MSX conversions were coded and published in Spain only, as far as I know. Although narrow, MSX market had some (little) impact in the late 80s - early 90s.

Yes, they seem to have been converted to MSX by New Frontier. But it's interesting to see that those games are in English! So they did not seem to be for the Spanish market. Any info about New Frontier?

They mainly did Speccy? What's Imanok got to do with it?

Oh, by the way, I saw in many games that "Kempston" is a controller. It seems speccy only though. Could you actually use it on MSX? What is it exactly, compared to a normal joystick?

In MSX it's not necessary an interface like the Kempston . It allows the use of Atari joysticks on the plain spectrum, look here
