Hello everyone
first i want to say im very happy to be here. ^_^
when i was little i always used to be an very huge MSX Fan
And recently i started being active with the Msx again.
and wow those bring back some wonderful memories ^_^
nothing can beat the msx.
well anyway a while ago i bought (vampire killer) online
it is the japanese version of the game.
and since the game and the box seemed to be in a good condition.
and the person said the game was 100% working
i finally made op my mind and decided to buy it.
yesterday the game arived and ohhh boy i was so happy to hold it in my hands.
but.......... the fact is the game doesnt work. ~.~;
most of the times when i walk to the next screen the game freezes and my msx resets.
sometimes the game works pretty well and i can play a long time.
but most of the times the game already freezes in the first level when i walk to the next screen.
i already tried a lot
i already cleaned to cartridge
i already tried the game on both of my MSX 2 Anms 8245 computers
but it just keeps crashing and crashing.
jeeez thats quite a dissapointment...
well anyway i was wondering if someone had some familiar experiences with the cartridge version of vampire killer ?
or if someone has some tips or suggestions what might help to stop it from crashing.
well anyway im glad to be here ^_^ and im sure i will have a great time
Msx Forever ^_^ yay

Welcome to mrc! I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the level of msx activities that is still going on.
Did you clean the cartridge slots as well? A bent pin could have that effect as well. But a bit strange if that would be the same in both machines. Still, it does sound like some bad contact somewhere.

SOunds like the cartridge connector should be cleaned just a little bit more.

hmmmm yeah i have to agree with you guys ^_^
it also gave me the impression of some bad contact.
because personally i think its pretty hard to get the inside of the cartrdige damaged (i think) ^_^;
so it has to be some contact failure.
but like msx addict said its strange both my machines give the same problem.
well anyway i will clean both cartridge slots of both my msx machines its always worth a try ^_^
well thanks for the warm welcome and the advice ^_^ its very much appreciated.

I meant, the connector of the cartridge. It can be quite some hard polishing to get it cleaned and working properly.

Not very hard. I tend to just use a q-tip and windex (regular) to clean the contacts, and they work like new.

mmm you got a philips nms8245?
Remember that read in some old dutch msx magazine there was a verion that crashes on a philips msx! 8245.8250 iirc.
A person bought a vk at a Dixons (shop) with that nice japanes sticker on it but it crashed on his msx, he went back to the shop to change for anonther one (without nice colered label, european one) and it was ok for him.
So i think you got that same problem!

Hi Abi
what you are saying could be the case indeed
because i used to have an japanese vampire killer (disk version)
a long time ago and that game gave the same problem.
the disk version crashed less though.
but it crashed in totally the same way as this cartridge version does.
i always thought the disk version was a bad crack but i think it was the same reason why it crashed.
well atleast it gives me some comfort i didnt bought an malfunctioning cartridge lol.
i want to thank everyone for the kind and fast replies on my message ^_^

afaik that disk version crashes randomly if you have an MSX with 128kb ram (256 or higher should be fine). That has to do with the cracked disk version; it's unrelated to your cartridge crashing.

I know about at least 3 versions of VK's disk crack - 2 of them are a set of binaries (one has 8 bins and the other - 9 bins) and the third is a vkiller.com + vkiller. Which one is the problematic one ?

I know several too...
there's a 128kb/256kb double version which causes problems with 128kb (random lockup)
then there's a really small one with no music and the gamemaster cheats turned on that crashed a lot... that's the version I originally had.... kind of an odd one.
perhaps I played another version but it also crashed (maybe a 128kb exclusive version?) .... I'm not sure on that though....
so, all versions I knew crashed on a 128kb machine anyway... until I got the cart on ebay
