IMHO, copyrighted and not copyrighted data should be separated somehow.
I just tried to download Arranger demo mp3s from Generation MSX, and - guess what ?
They were linked to nowadays wiped funet.
I also had some links to various pdfs there from my sites - all of them are broken now.

As I said: everything is copyrighted. The thing is: what does the copyright holder permit you to do?
msxarchive.nl will be back in April, just be patient.

not really related to the legal/illegal issue, but I think sites in general shouldn't depend so much on linking as they sometimes do.
There's been lots of instances where I wanted to download something and dozens of sites would be linking to the same dead link. But anyways, that has hardly anything to do with legal issues....

In my case, I am using free hosting where I can put a very limited amount of data, and I cannot host those big pdfs locally.

Indeed, technically it's not 100% correct how we use the word copyrighted here, but most people know what we mean, so it's only a technicallity.

I get that, it was more a general statement...there's many cases where a site could host a mirror of some file but they link instead.

the best way is to host your files and secret that way ba$ix doesnt hunt you down....
there lots of possibilities...
i loved funet for its documentary abouth msx
the game covers....... again a nice site has been shut down..... so what the fuck where do i find images from my original demo disks i bought......
the nice thing about funet was the wanted to keep msx software safe...... and now that idea is ruined....
if you want to keep your msx fans bazix should stop his war on warez........
ever tought of prising the games down....????
7,50 is to much for a (new)old game........
btw its just like a reprint of a book .... they arrent worth any penny.....
btw you lost my monny when you decided to produce MSX software for emulators......
that sucks.....
So i gues what ba$ix does doesnt mater.......
the ones who wil share wil do that |

It doesn't seem to matter how often people tell you that MRC is *not* Bazix, you (and all your co-rebels) already made up your mind about it.
Tell me, does your website thrive on flamebaits? Is a day without the usual ranting an empty day for your website? Tell, me, is there currently (this day, yesterday etc.) a visitors-peak for your website? Are you a boulevard magazine that depends on intentionally spread rumors?
And now the rest:
i loved funet for its documentary abouth msx
the game covers....... again a nice site has been shut down.....
iirc funet had stopped being what it was already. The new website you're referring to exceeded its monthly trafficlimit in one day, surely all these magazine buyers are downloading disklabels for their demodisks..
ever tought of prising the games down....????
7,50 is to much for a (new)old game........
Then leave it. Oh, remember those MSX-Engine ads when Xak etc. came out? That wasn't exactly like 7.50 euro.
btw its just like a reprint of a book .... they arrent worth any penny.....
Then leave it, what do you care?
btw you lost my monny when you decided to produce MSX software for emulators......
Then what do you care about 7.50? 7.50 or 0.00 .. does it make any difference for you?
So, my dear caterpillar, climb in your cocoon, have a rest, and come out as a peaceful butterfly. That's a far brighter future than your proposal towards me.. |

Well, wolf_ you're a bit narrow minded in this matter yourself (no offense). The debate is quite black and white. Sounds like Bazix is either the devil or the savior depending on who is posting. |

poisonic: I'm not sure what you are thinking, but FUNet has not been shut down by Bazix or something. Also, the prices they ask seem reasonable to me: you get a paper booklet, box, etc. It's a complete and full re-release of those games. And yes, it sucks that they only work on an emulator, but as Bazix already said: it's a start and they would like it to be different themselves as well. Until then: just leave it be and don't buy the stuff. (It just sucks that there will be no other translations from them for real MSX until this issue is resolved...)

well, the problem is that there are some forms of mis-information floating around.
There seems to be certain ideas that Bazix closed down Funet, and that Bazix in collaboration with MRC wants to oppose MSXPosse.
Both of these are very unfounded statements. I'm very positive that they're completely false too... I don't know where these rumours come from, or how they came into existence, but they're rather hostile accusations, and bound to anger a few people.

Funet has requested from the various people mainting the public areas, including the MSX area to remove materials which weren't allowed to be there under the copyright regulations. This has nothing to do with Bazix/Woomb, but a simple request from Funet to avoid legal problems in the future. Nothing directly MSX related even!
And as for Funets succesor, they have gone through their complete bandwidth due to an article in a magazine. Nothing more, nothing less. It will be back beginning of next month. No need for MRC/Bazix/WOOMB-bashing for that either, so...
