| How to load a cassette game on msx?

Hi,
I dug up my old MSX from the attic and at the moment I'm trying to load a cassette game, but it doesn't seem to be working.
I have my tape recorder attached to the msx with the right cable and 'remote' seems to be working.
On the tape it says:
To load type: BLOAD"CAS:",R
I tried this, while the tape is in the recorder with the recorder set to play. As soon as I hit enter the tape starts to spin, but no program is loaded...
I waited for the entire tape to be played, but nothing happens. How long should it take to load such a game?
Am I doing something wrong?
Maybe it's not the right type of tape recorder. Im using a Supertech TRC-6T.
But I doubt that the recorder is broken, because saving and loading my own programs to a blank cassette works fine.
Any idea's?
Thanks!! |

Maybe your tape has just gone bad... or the load instruction of the game is wrong. Try again with RUN"CAS:"
If it fails, I think the tape has gone bad.

well, try another TAPE.... is it don't works....
try to check the msx-recorder cable with a tester, is very common that the cable is just cutted internally.
ser the VOLUME at a 75% maibe can be 60%.....
if all that don't works.... try... (for advance users) ....
try to adjust the azimut (the screw at the left side of the heads (you needs to adjust it earing the sound of the program... when you got more fidelity in high frecuencies it is better.....
if ALL that don't works... the TAPE is EXPIRED..... as all you others TAPES
So, go to get (or re-dicover a new use) a portable CD players.....
Then, burn in your PC a AUDIO CD with the WAV file of a game that you like....
then use the CD player connected in the output ears, to the ear input of the MSX, the other 2 connectors are not necesary....
BLOAD"CAS:",R
and press PLAY selecting the TRACK of the CD that contains the game that you want....
you will read "FOUND: <NAME>" on screen in 8 seconds...... if that don't happens, the cable is bad....

Usually problem is using wrong loading command, but in this case I think, that it might be wrong volume setting in casette player or bad head alligment.
If the program is in binary format, use:
BLOAD"CAS:",R
If the program is in tokenized BASIC format, use:
CLOAD
If the program is in ASCII format, use:
RUN"CAS:"

Thanks!
I'll try these things u guys mentioned.
I'm thinking It might be the volume setting. I'll also try different loading commands.
Maybe the tapes simply are dead. Such an odd system; putting data on a tape, isn't it?
I'll try and stick to rom cartridges

If it's an original tape then try to load the B side. Usually it would contain the same program on a different baud rate. But since your own saved programs can be loaded again it’s probably an alignment problem. Try, when possible, adjusting de head of the tape recorder slightly.
