That's it. I just finished it. And I am still impressed. It's a weird experience to play a game with Sega CD graphics and a story that surpasses most movies I've ever seen. If you've never played, DO IT!!!
And now comes the question, is the MSX version worth of playing, after finishing the Sega CD version?

congrats, leandro. Hope the MSX version is indeed as good as the experience you had with the Sega game. I never played it, only *looked* at it. Dunno why, it's prolly the ONLY Konami (MSX) game I never tried....
It's like MicroCabin's "the tower of cabin", I booted it, checked it and decided not to waste my time on that.

Snatcher on MSX is great but play SD Snatcher instead. More action and killer-graphics!

The MSX version is worth to check out if you want to see the differences between the versions. The load times and game speed are terrible though, I ended up running it in an emulator with the MSX speed set to 200% (sometimes even 400%)... messed up the sound, of course =P ...it's a really sloppy port of the NEC PC-88 version.
The Sega CD/Mega CD version is clearly the superior and more enjoyable one.
On MSX, you're indeed better off with SD Snatcher instead of Snatcher. SD Snatcher seems to be like Konami saying "Sorry about that port. Just to make it right again, here's a kick-ass exclusive" |

Samor: a tip: if you don't want to spoil the sound, just change the CPU frequency and VDP engine speed only (In openMSX: set z80_freq_locked off; set z80_freq 20000000 (20MHz or so) and try set cmdtiming broken)
It's possible that the game does weird things of course, as the emulation is not very accurate anymore. |

SD snatcher is an msx exclusive game. The english translation made it possible for all of us non japanese guys to check one of the best games ever made for msx.
Snatcher for sega cd i have played in the past although i did not like it much, the SD Snatcher is superior in all ways.(The SCC+ sounds are excellent and you can use the memory of the SCC+ and expand it more and load something in it i think)
Best

well, it's worth trying. the game normally really plays as if its running on half of the supposed speed.

The SEGA CD version is very very very good. Especialy the voice acting adds much to the game experience. It's no use to play the MSX snatcher version. Believe me. The SD version on the other hand is very good.

I've finished Snatcher translated in portuguese because Spanish/English versions were not available back then. I ended it some years later of finishing SD Snatcher which is my favourite game.
All I can say is: Snatcher for MSX deserves to be played even if it is not 100% complete as other versions. You must play it!
EDIT: Thanks to Daniel Caetano you can play it from HD too so the speed during loads is not a problem anymore. It had a key to avoid synchronization so you could read the texts really faster (I don't know if it was because of the turboR here). |

Very good in the sense that it's in the same league as eg. Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, or very good in comparison to other MSX2 RPGs? To be honest, I don't like SDS that much, I got bored with it after playing it for an hour or 2. |

I liked Snatcher (Sega CD) better than SD Snatcher, even though I played it much later... I've always thought of SDS as a very good game, though. I like the combination of the setting, the battle system and the story, but technically it probably isn't the best RPG ever. The story's better in the original Snatcher and got slightly weaker due to the rpg transition. Allthough I like a city setting much better than the usual medieval-inspired settings in rpg's, that's a personal preference that has less to do with the actual quality. And there's of course the good dose of nostalgia that probably makes me like it better than many other games.

I'd say the atmosphere of any version of Snatcher is a whole lot darker than that of SD Snatcher. In fact, it is literally darker: much of SD Snatcher takes place in daylight, while Snatcher is set in the evening and night. And of course, the stories are quite different. I played the Sega CD version of Snatcher and loved it, although there is one particular scene towards the end that is far more difficult than anything else in the game and that almost spoilt it for me, until I beat it that is. By then, you are at the end of the third act, which the MSX version lacks - it ends at Act II. I've tried to play the English translation of Snatcher in an emulator, but it really was too slow. The main reason I wanted to play it through, was to hear how the tunes sounded in their SCC versions. But there are of course other ways to do that, so I gave up.
Oh, and one final remark: what is really missing from all other Snatcher versions than the MSX version is the opening tune - Twilight of Neo Kobe City. I wish they would have kept that one. |

I cannot understand why konami did not take advantage of the msx2+ in those games. Not in the sense of compatibility (example this game runs on msx,msx2 and msx2+).But to use the features of the vdp 9958,konami created a cartridge add for sound the scc why not use the 9958 too?.Since they did not think that original psg could do what they wanted, why did not they do the same with the 9938 ?the 9958 is superior. And snatcher and many other games could take advantage of that.
I know that many of you will say "how many msx2+ systems were bought by people back in the 1990ies?".Well snatcher could really be a good game if konami wanted to make it so.
Sd snatcher on the other hand is one of the best games for me.

so euh, ANYONE ever played and actually finished Snatcher on MSX?
SDS is most def one of the best overall games ever made for MSX (IMAMOO), the best RGP.. dunno. SDS is more a action adventure with RPG style game. I think XAK and YS series deserve the king tittle.

yeah, I finished Snatcher on MSX. It's a bit weird to have the third act missing; on the other hand, I always thought act 3 felt a bit rushed compared to the other two.
