How about a topic about Snatcher!??

I just finished the game (MSX version of course) and I'd like to discuss it a bit. Especially the end is quite disappointing. YOu hardly get to know the explanation behind many things...

What do you think of the game?

This is an impressive game! I finished it in English in 2 days and it deserved to be played!

Of course, some things were taken out of the game and the ending then suffers it, but still I think I understood it back then. I remember I thought... hey, where is the path to go to Moscow?

I also finished it in two days... But I have the feeling it's a veyr much reduced and ripped SD-Snatcher story. As in: the SD Snatcher story is much more complete. Some things that you can only explain with the SD-Snatcher story:
  • why Harry Benson looks so familiar
  • why there are so many hints towards Moscow (as Saeba said)
  • the origin/story of Randam Hajile
  • the rest of the past of Gillian and Jamie
  • the rest of the future of Gillian and Jamie
On the other hand, some things are completely not mentioned in SD-Snatcher (tell me when I'm wrong, it's a long time ago I played it) and unique for Snatcher:
  • Napoleon
  • The Chinese Doctor (forgot his name)
  • Jean's daughter and his house (and Alice)
  • Queen's Hospital
  • The taxi driver and his wife
  • Cosplay in Outer Heaven
  • well, a lot!
Also, apart from act 3 taken out (which seems very short if you read a Snatcher walkthrough for Sega), many jokes, phone numbers and small side stories seem to have been taken out (compared to the Sega version).

The end is very unsatisfactory to me, because you still haven't beaten 'evil'. "It's only just begun!" Yeah right... I guess they meant that (MSX) Snatcher was a rush job and they didn't have time to finish it properly. I'm glad they did so in SD Snatcher, though. It was fun to play, though! Thanks a lot to the translators!! (I wonder how incredibly slow the original game from floppy without CTRL would be....)

Any more interesting stuff?

seems about right. The later released Snatcher for Sega CD (and PC Engine CD in Japan) contains the full story.
Act 3 is still kind of rushed yes, but it covers the missing parts.

Napoleon is in SDS, but very briefly (he runs the bar where Isabelle dances, and you see his face in an ad after the Godzilla movie).

SDS has its exclusives too, like the Snatcher cult, the funfair, the hospital with old Petrovich (Elijah's father), and of course the Master Snatcher... also many more Metal Creatures but that's got a lot to do with the transition to RPG (more a technical reason, probably).

Wasn't Queen hospital in SDSnatcher? Maybe just the building in Neo Kobe? I don't play SDS for more than 10 years so I forgot most of the stuff. And yes, Napoleon appeared where Samor said. I remember back then that I was waiting to give money to him to get some answers, since I had the "Snatcher walkthrough by FKD". But of course, it was not the case, SDSnatcher did not have that.

Jean's daughter appears in SD Snatcher... I remember the scene "kissing" her and receiving some slaps. Or was it another girl? I finished most of the game in japanese, so... but I think it was "Izabelle", the same who was dancing.

Queen's hospital is in SD Snatcher , Oleen (the pet hospital) isn't though. There's another hospital in SDS near the fun fair where old Dr. Petrovich is. It's AFAIK not in Snatcher.

The crying girl is Jean's daughter, Catherine was her name IIRC. In Snatcher she has a dog, don't think he's in SDS. She's got only a minor role in SDS, much bigger in Snatcher. Also, in Snatcher she lives in a large house, in SDS it's an apartment in a building near the Junker HQ.

Oh yeah, Harry's collegue is not in Snatcher (forgot the name... Geoff?). He's also purely added in because of gameplay purposes.

Jamie as medical assistant is also different, of course... plus, the section in SDS where you have to combat a ton of Snatcher Jamies isn't in Snatcher

And a silly one: poor Gillian doesn't even have his own desk or apartment in SDS

Okay, lez play.

I've booted the translated game from harddisk. I never liked the interface of the game (I hate text adventures etc) so I never got to it. But, since this IS a real Konami, I tried it again yesterday. Boy, it really sucked me in. But still I hate the interface.. and the loading, DAMN wtf!

Besides that, it feels like playing SD-snatcher over again but this time with another look-and-feel. Funny. Act 1 is exactly like SD. You find your college surrounded by enemies (and even got killed) who planted a timebomb. Get outa-there! (thaz where I got the game over...gheh)

Speaking of Game Over, boy does this suck. Game Over = restart game. No conintue/restart/load. Just reset, load and load some more...
cm'on Konami, thaz just bullshit!
The other not-so-funny-thing is the game-tilt while using savestate reload functions (bluemsx). The game just hangs... too motherf*&! bad.
All this makes me think "why should I bother". Well, it's THE ONLY Konami game I never played (let alone finish it). So I HAVE TO.

Anymore peeps experienced with those tragedies?

So, what I did was boot in bluemsx, type "snatcher.com".. THEN savestate
With next game over I just quickload THAT savestate and press enter. Saves some precious time...

I got stuck playing SD Snatcher, the walkthrough i'm using stops after the sewers. I'm in the dark right now (literaly)... Does anyone have a good description of the whole game? Thx! I'm too lazy to figure it out myself.

make sure you have flare bombs in that area (it's Queen hospital) so you can see who/what's attacking you. I think there should be an easy way out (not using the sewers again) from which you can go back to HQ too.

http://www.sdsnatcher.net/ does not seem to have a walkthrough, but it has hints/tips and maps.

Amazing, such a postcount, and such little output .. I think we'd gladly accept you to type equally lotsa o' lines in assembler. The current gurus actually have made quite a large CV in these recent years. Stop talking, start producing games/demos!

There *is* a difference between you and ro!

ro usually spends his time in useless threads and in useless debates, ro has all kinda optimized workflow (FKernel), he can code, he can draw, he can compose, he has ideas/fantasy, e.g. he has all the ingredients to produce something. When he then only produces over 2k forumposts and *no* product in all those years.. then.. something's wrong.
