Very sad news for us . They have finished to work with MSX, so no new Slotexpanders, megarams, MSX motherboards...
I wanted to buy a slotexpander and even I was very interested in the new MSX 2+ Motherboard, but now it will be impossible.
Yours, |

This is not sad, this is horrendous! What made him take this decision right now, just before releasing UNI? Does anybody posting here know him in person, to ask him what made he take this decision?
I don't know him, but I'll try to send him an e-mail though the address above.

I only know this, in the last months several brazilian msx-developers have quit the scene (or at least left for a while), due to others making personal attacks/offenses to them with no reason whatsoever to do so... Ademir is just another one on the list.
It was said on MSXBR-L lots of times, when Ademir comes up with an idea, there's always lots of people who promess to buy his stuff, but after he invested the money on the components, and ask people to pay, then only a few actually do it. So he ends up loosing money on his projects, and delaying delivery because of this.
Just see the UNI: it was scheduled to be delivered in May, but still as today there's 1 user who havent payed it in full... others just finished payment at the end of may, and lots of people who said to be interested at the beginning didnt even make into that list...
Add to it lots of verbal/written abuse from some people who apparently just wants to create havok (they didnt even purchased anything from him, but still thinks to have the right to criticize him!), and I think it's probably the reason why Ademir is lefting the scene
I do hope he will change his mind though - after all MSX is an addiction |

I must admit I am one of the ones which recently stated interest on acquiring an UNI and didn't made a formal order, but this was due to personal financial issues. There is always people complaining, and I strongly hope he changes his mind. I think no user, even the boring ones, shall leave the MSX scene - the latter just need to remain silent . But to lose Ademir is certainly a major loss to Brazilian MSXzers, if not for all of them.

I already translated the frontpage news up to the current one. Sometimes translation comes a little late because I'm the only one doing it regularly for Portuguese by now. Other international versions of MRC sometimes are translated with some delay, even considering they have more translators available.
Regarding the making of a formal newspost about this situation, I believe it is more advisable to wait for a while as the situation develops, as we still hope this is not a final decision.

Thinlizzy: what's with the bad attitude, man? I don't know what happened, so I'm careful about this one, but Ademir has meant a great deal to the Brazilian MSX community in the past with e.g. his MSX2/2+ upgrade kits and countless hardware extensions. He deserves quite some credits, even if he has made mistakes or false promises. MSX is a hobby and all that is developed for it is at the grace of people willing to spend spare time on the device. Delays are simply inevitable and frankly nothing to worry about. So far, about all the action the world has seen from you (mainly on the MRC) is spreading negativity and stretching policies. It goes without saying that the MSX community on the whole benefits a lot more from Ademir's activity than yours.
Whatever situation caused Ademir to drop his MSX activities (temporarily): I certainly hope the prolonging negativity of a small group of big-mouthed MSX 'users' has nothing to do with it. I know that it's tempting to bitch and moan about pretty much anything on the internet, but it's only making the people who are trying to put efforts in making good things happen for a computer system we all love doubt whether or not they should continue what they are doing - or at least to put MSX a little bit lower on their list of priorities.
If we want MSX to survive, we really have to start treating the active members of the MSX community - the creators - differently. We have to motivate them, give them a pat on the back every now and then, praise and buy their finished products, suggest features for upcoming products et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I also feel that the 'silent majority' has to act differently against those who repeatedly and intentionally try to spoil the fun by raising their voice and saying they -do- appreciate what someone is doing. Nagging on and on about things going wrong/not the way you want it to is easy, counter-productive and plain stupid. If you think things should and could be different stop spending your energy in demotivating others with negative comments but come up with a decent alternative yourself.
Ademir, if you are reading this: I hope you will reconsider your decision to drop your MSX activities. I myself know how hard it is to get mud in the face on a regular basis, but keep in mind that for every person bitching and moaning there are at least 10 who might be silent, but who do actually appreciate what you are doing. If MSX BR-L is not the place for you, then try and find another place where you can discuss and announce your MSX activities. Try and find motivation from the people that support you - even though they might not voice their support as often as they should. Whatever the choice you make, many people - including me - are grateful for everything you have done for the MSX community and wish you well.

Ademir (or his company) is one of the few MSX developers -maybe the only one- that has been with the MSX since the eighties. For what I have read on the Internet his MegaRAM was copied by other companies in the late 80s and he developed the only upgrade kits to MSX2/2+ available in Brazil (as you all know MSX2 computers were not sold there). I hope that he will reconsider his decision, too.
For me his best MSX product is the mini-slot expansor.

First of all, my reaction is not meant towards Ademir, since I know nothing about the subject so I can't pass judgement on this case. And I would also like to state that the way ThinLizzy put his message (without any facts to support his statement) also doesn't contribute anything.
But I what I do want to react on is Snout's statement that we should treat the MSX developers differently compared to what is happening now. Partially this is true (it's easy to shout unfounded remarks) but we also shouldn't put them above the rest. Sometimes I get the idea it's not allowed to criticise them in any way and that is wrong as well. Even if they get criticised for a valid reason, people start saying we should respect them, give them time, and forgive them, etc. etc. ... Fact is that a few of the MSX developers (be it software, hardware, translation, sales, etc...) tend to be sloppy with their business. And we should accept that on an open forum as this, these matters can be discussed and should be discussed. Even if it's only to keep them "on edge" ;-)
Of course such discussions should have some foundation of course.
Just my 2 cts..
