Personally I think it should have been produced locally from the start. I only see advantages there. Not in the least that Sunrise would actually care to produce something like that in a reasonable amount of time. I don't think the priority for a western edition is very high in Japan. The long time since the Japanese version seems to pretty much confirm that.

By the way, I'll get my 1brickMSX back to a 1chipMSX again once my jtag is up and running. But I've been a bit too busy to focus on that really.

Again, both off topic, the question is do we want an european version rohs compliant and available with slots
Not again questioning the content(s)

well, RoHS compliancy is not a question, it's a must.

and regardless who makes the OCM, the final product should be a finished *product*, not a tie-wrapped board with cables etc sticking out. And it needs slots, or at least one slot.

if Sunrise can build one locally under MSX-a license, maybe even as "OEM" partner for Basix, it could be a nice prospect for future evolutions..

Considering all the electronics coming to Europe from Asia every day, creating a RoHS compliant product shouldn't be impossible.

IMHO local production of ocm is a great idea/solution!
I sponsor this option
A question: is it possible to "route" preorders at bazix to sunrise?
(maybe my English is by far not perfect)

yep, I would buy one too.

But I am under the impression that Bazix doesn't see Sunrise as a option. I don't know that for sure but that's just my feeling.

Why not make (also) the licenses, design + software available for other partners like Sunrise or even multiple local partners? I think this could also speed up 'evolution' of the OCM. like more or less slots, bigger FPGA chip, VHDL upgrades, etc..So people can choose between a super deluxe version or a normal OCM.

i guess obtaining an license to build an (new) msx computer should not be too difficult, this is the idea msx grew big on right? every company can build a compatible machine. of course you have to pay a royalty fee for using the rom's, but as i understood the hardware is open source, without the roms being obtainable for producing this open source hardware it would be kinda like an empty guesture to make the hardware open source. i can't imagine msx changed to a machine only a few elite can build and sell....

can we have a word on the status of the EU OCM? Will we see the OCM/eu in 2007 or not? If not, why not, and when will it be expected then?

Or maybe bazix will surprise us all with an enhanced OCM with MSX2+ support (or better)..

but at least, give an update!?

Better send a mail to Bazix about this and post the reply here!

Iirc there's no news to report tho:
1) it'd have been posted on the MRC frontpage bigtime
2) iirc someone asked Rikusu @ Bussum .. ergo: no news

It would be nice to know *why* there is no news. Are things stalled? If so, why? What is the expected date of an update?

So far, things didn't go very smoothly concerning the OCM, as you all know. That's one of the reasons why we have made the choice not to disclose every detail that we get to know ourselves. Nothing feels as annoying as to continuously say things without 100% certainty and then to have to take them back again because things turn out differently.

As for an expected date of an update, I can say something about that, but with the necessary prudence: January 2008. The reason is simple: I will be visiting Japan from half December through the first week of January. I already made a 'date' with our Japanese partners to talk some things through...

But please do remind, I/we can't give any guarantees on this point.

I'd not do that without any permission actually, since I feel it's not fair to quote privately addressed emails.

but yeah, I guess I'll also send bazix an email. although rikusu already answered most of our concerns.

So, how about the -often heard- suggestion to produce those OCM's locally instead of in the far east?
