If you're going to update that db anyway, I suggest naming-'consistency'; include the manufacturer in every name, like renaming the "R-Type" mapper to "Irem R-Type".

Nice to know: Super Lode Runner mapper type finally got implemented in openMSX today.

I believe the manufacturer is already in the database. bluemsx shows R-Type - Irem 1988 Japan in the status field when you play R-Type. I suppose that in blueMSX we could add more info about the rom in the rom open dialog. Don't think that the manufacturer is shown in the open dialog now.
We've also been thinking of adding screenshots in the rom open dialog but we don't know how the best way of supporting screenshots would be.

I doubt most users would be willing to download a collection of over 1000 screenshots just so they can see them in the blueMSX open dialog. A good solution would be a collaboration with the online gen msx database (makes me think of GameStats, that caused a lot of ).

In detail, add a <genmsxid> to every entry in softwaredb.xml, and be sure to make Sandy promise not to change them
eg. in the case of Galaga, this would be 141. Create a "more information on Generation-MSX" link on the open dialog that opens http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/141 when clicked on.

When we've talked about it, the most popular solution would indeed be to link to genmsx. Another solution would be to provide a separate download package with the screenshots.
There are some other cool things that can be done with screenshots too, like having thumbnails in the explorer browser. We have a working shell extension prototype but its not working 100% so we haven't promoted it, but I believe its downloadable from the bluemsx forum somewhere.
