No madder how they build up the MSX, its never impossible to change it, of cause its very difficult but not impossible

Ofcause no one wants to do that if its to difficult, better find a SVI738 or a Yamaha with the MSX2 VDP already onboard.

There are 128kB MSX1 machines, which of course have a mapper. E.g. the Yamaha CX-5MII/128. (Which also has a V9938, but OK.)

It is possible but really hard. You have to modify video circuitry a lot. Output signals from V9938 are very different from TMS9918. Timming is just double. You need to make a sepparate board with the VRAM. No mapper built-in (it is in the standard). Need an extra ROM bank...
Too difficult and expensive, but you can still keep that MSX if you use to make hardware projects, to test them...

I am somewhat confused in one element.I found a parodius mapper version that is for 128kbyte ram machine with 64kbytes vram. Now msx1 models have 64kbytes of vram?If i use a megarom flash scc cart with the parodius rom, would i be able to play the game on that toshiba msx?The cartridge box of parodius says msx not msx2.

Is it that the mapper version is loaded partly on the 64kbytes of video ram and there are lots of swaps from the ram to vram?So in a way since 16kbytes of vram are used for display the mapper version uses the rest 48kbytes?So mapper version is only with 128kbyte msx2 machines (that may have more than 16kbytes of ram).

Sorry if these questions seem silly i am just trying to learn the basic features of msx.Any help would be appreciated.

Again: MSX1 has only 16kBytes of VRAM, which is the maximum the TMS (MSX1 VDP) supports.
When usin gthe Mega FlashROM SCC, you don't need any extra RAM in the MSX to play it, as the whole game is inside the FLash, as if you're playing the original cart. This also goes for Parodius.

About that mapper crack: no idea, depends on the crack, but some use VRAM indeed, which makes the game very slow. And yes, they have quite some spare VRAM on an MSX2.
