To be honest, why even try... Xain just made pure crap with Bastard and Deep Forrest.

I second that

I third that. And don´t forget about Mirai.

BTW, Sein and Xain are the same softhouse? It´s hard to imagine a company able to mistype its own name, except for these two... "All your Base" looks like the Oxford dictionary when compared to the texts in Aramo, Mirai and Tritorn.

AFAIK Sein and Xain are the same, indeed. I'm not sure why they have two ways of writing it... quite weirdish, idd.

Perhaps one of them, one is a softhouse made with former employees of the other. Even if they´re not the same, for sure they have similar GFX styles and uh... similar story writers.

I suspect the Japanese written name is the same, but that they decided to change their international spelling of the name. Probably first Sein, which would be more in line with Japanese and then to the "cooler" Xain.

Yup, as far as I know, both names are spelled the same in katakana.

However, did anyone ever finish this game? I didn't. I didn't even try. How boring those mazes are! Considering the fact that I even did a try once to play Guido's Lost in Plantinus (and I finished The Vampires and She Vampires even more often!!), you can imagine how much this game attracted me .

I'd love to see the whole map, though (and if possible, an explanation about the object of the game itself)

Considering complexity/intensity of Xain games, I reckon there must be someone here who has beaten Garyuoh - Dragon King.

I always thought of it as a pretty fun game.
Never got much further as stage 3 or something, though.

BTW, playing both Tritorn and Super Tritorn I got supermighty at every (looong) session, but there was always a graveyard which I never got out of!

[edit/P.S.]

Ever noticed how the '05 "playable" demo version of 'my game' looks a lot like Bastard?
Still I couldn't think of an easier-to-program way for such a game.
From birdsview smack on top of it! No things disappearing behind walls and such... No scrolling either.

Just-a once?

Never wanted to find out about new, unknown worlds with brand new exciting graphics, music and adventure, coiled to stike you?

Well... Haven't got that far myself eather, I must admit. But at least I reached level 2!

LEVEL 1A I could access from LEVEL 1 if I'm right. But it's allmost a completely black screen (if you don't have the cats eyes)
At that time I had the red and the blue cross and the bronze key nothing else. I might give it another try if I can find more free time.

Why haven't you told me before about your Bastard fetish? Now I feel very guilty for having offended your feelings...

Hehehe. Don't worry, it's merely coincidential.

If you're gonna make a game with 16x16 sprites about an armored guy and make the perspective to be smack on top, there's a big possibility it will look something like Bastard.

You know very well which games to put down if you'd really wish to step on my balls... Bastard ain't one of them.

Greetingz only_69 for having the patience to map such a game !
I remember trying to wander around in bastard during HOURS, it was eons ago in the early 90's when i was a teenager, i was searching to discover some sense and logic into this realy odd game...
It was so huge and so confusing i was unable to achieve anything rewarding...
I can wait to see the full map, i always was fascinated by bastard, asking myself endlesly if the game was pure crap or just too much challenging.
Cheers

only_69: There is a second village in the first stage. It should be connected to the exit on the top-left of the map. I'm not sure why it isn't, it could be a bug in the game, or it could be a defect of the cracked version of the game. Could someone who has the original game check whether the bug is present there as well?

In any case, there is another way of getting there: exploiting a bug in the game's collision detection. From the first village, go down to the first screen of the maze. Then run diagonally towards the corner of the wall. If you approach at just the right point, you will walk into the wall. When that happens, go up one screen and then left one screen and you'll end up in the second village.

I remember i had to try different cracked / copied version of the game back in the 90's because most of them were buggy and would more or less affect the overall gameplay with glitches, missing rooms and stuffs like that... So make sure you have a clean release or the original game because i can recall most cracked version had a lots of bugs, realy !
