...for CP/M apps. I'm trying to get a high-quality CP/M text editor called VDE up and running. In order to work, you need to tell it what kind of "terminal" you have. If I have to, I'll try NYYRIKKI's ANSI emulation and use the ANSI/VT-100 driver, but I'd really like to it working "properly". Do the MSX text modes work under any more "common" command sets like Osbourne or Kaypro or are it's control codes unique?

MSX screen controll is VT-52 compatible. If the program has no such option or it needs colors then you have to download jANSI-driver that emulates ANSI controlls (MSX2 needed). If you happen to own GFX9000 I suggest using PUT9000 driver that is also ANSI compatible.

VT-52? Thatnks. I also seem to have had some luck with the Amstrad and Heathkit drivers.
