A few years ago (that sounds longer ago than it actually is) I thought of buying Compass, but I decided to wait until Compass 2 arrived. Unfortunately, that did not happen yet. In another topic, Grauw already pointed out it could be useful if more people mailed Jon - the developer - about it, but maybe it's also a good idea to discuss Compass 2 over here. Who has mailed Jon recently and knows a bit more on the status of the project as of now.

As I (think I) said before, I contacted Jon at the very end of september, and at that time he told me he hadn't been able to work on it for quite a while for several reasons, but he also said not to worry and that he was definately going to finish it. Apparantly there isn't *that* much work to do on it anymore. He said there might be a new beta before the end of the year, however as we all know now that hasn't happened yet ^_^.

At 23/1 I sent a couple of email messages to him again (4 to be precise) (hey, I had a lot to talk about! ;p), with mainly some feature requests, inspired on the features in TNIasm which were feasible to implement on an MSX assembler aswell. I think Jon got scared by them and postponed answering them a little ^_^, but I still have good faith we can see Compass 2 before the end of this year. However in order to make that happen, as snout already said, I think it might be useful if the people interested mailed Jon about it (heh, let's spam Jon's email address here: jon<AT>msx.ch). Just to let him know there are a lot of people who are very anxious for it .

Hmmm if I understood the messages on the sunrise page correctly, the @msx.ch mailserver has been down from November 2002 to January 2003. Maybe he did not even recieve your mails?

Looking at the current MRC poll, Compass is enormously popular!

This is beginning to sound a lot like the RoA story ... :/

The current poll should state it quite nicely. Compass is a quite popular assembly development environment mostly because it's quite complete. I wonder what would have happened if Compass 2 was ready and had a seperate option in the poll?
