This guy is a total fool right? No one would pay that much - would they? To stop anyone who might - I've recently had a daughter (my first) and need every penny I can get. I'll sell my cx5m with 6 yrm cartridges, the cartridge adapter, the yk-10 keyboard, a phillips data recorder, phillips mouse, sony 4k cartridge, and various other manuals. Basically everything you can't find as easily as the computer itself. And I'll sell it all for only $1,000 US hahaha

I'm sure there is *some* value in certain rare or unusual models, but a *new* turbo R cost less than $1200 back then when it came out. More like $900 or $1000. And that's for a new tR. Secondhand tR's currently go around on the internet for -depending on the model- around $400..$500 I think, a typical MSX2 for $40..60, a boosted MSX2 (extra mem, v9958, some sound stuff, all mint condition etc.) goes for $100 or so. So, with that in mind, I don't quite see how a cx5m is going to justify a $1200 tag, for an MSX1 with an FM chip! And while the chip is better than -say- an FM-PAC, does it have any real production value today? So, yes, it's certainly going to get a few smilies here..

1200 is a crazy price for such a model.I don't think he will be able to sell it as such.I would pay maximum 60-80 dollars for an msx1 model.

I bought a used boxed US CX5M in very good condition a year ago from an american seller. And it was bundled with a boxed Yamaha RX15 drum machine (really nice drum machine). I paid $100 + SH for it which I think is a fair price. An unboxed US CX5M's in working condition goes for around $40. Prices are a bit higher here in the US but asking $1200 is a bit over the top

Which actually makes me think.. what's been the most expensive MSX ever? (original shop value at the release) Is it that Sony 900 thing by any chance? Iirc, the 8280 was like 2900 Dutch guilders or so when it came out.

The Sony was aimed at a professional market, I think I read in some MSX Info that it was about 4000 NLG. Maybe that was including the Videotizer.

I think MSXers don't really care about low serial numbers. My own CX5M has 001559. But do I care? Not really. (I'd rather care to find back the power supply I had with it...)
By the way, your 'friends' site doesn't really work:

and plenty of more lines like that.
FYI: no one has ever payed 1200 USD for any MSX machine, not even for very rare ones. And yours isn't. All you have is the fact that it's in perfect new condition. And that is quite unusual indeed |
