Meisei is a great emulator with a few great and previously unseen feature in any MSX emulator. Since I really think it's a great feature to record movies (icm with the reverse function) I've made a few movies.

Gradius/Nemesis 1

Salamander
(Put Nemsis2 (Gradius 2 (1987) (Konami) (J).rom) in slot 2, else this movie won't work!)

Universe Unknown

Penguin Adventure

The roms I used are all GoodMSX roms, make sure you pick the roms with the same name as the movie else the movies won't work.

This is more fun than watching some overcompressed Google/YoutTube Video!

Did you try the openMSX event recorder already?

I wonder how portable these m0 files are. If timing changes, I suppose they won't run properly on a new version of meisei. (That's at least the case with the openMSX event recordings...)

A big difference here is the combination with reverse, eg. he doesn't die once in Salamander, and the Penguin Adventure fruit machines are being very generous

You're right, to prevent the likely case of completely messed up movies when playing them back in future versions, I'm making sure they'll only work on the same version they've been recorded with, 1.0.1 with the movies above. I'm keeping older meisei versions available on my homepage, so this shouldn't be a problem. They'll also need the same BIOS checksum, and cartridge checksums. Vampier used the default C-BIOS, and he already mentioned he's using the games from GoodMSX (UU is the one that comes with meisei).

It's on the maybe-TODO list, low priority. You can get the same result with a bit more effort:
- set renderer to D3D, vsync off, window size to 1, disable on-screen messages in meisei.ini if you don't want them to be visible in the end result
- play back movie
- record with Fraps at 50 or 60fps for PAL or NTSC respectively (this program is not free, maybe there's free alternatives, dunno)
- compress with VirtualDub

Did you accidentally try saving it into the memory slot instead of one of the file slots? If it was one of the file slots, did it create a 0 byte file, or no file at all?

it was a memory slot... no file

Can someone give me some help on how to get the movies running please. I'm only able to play the UU movie, the other won't work

Maybe it's because I don't use 'GoodMSX roms', I use my owm roms and rename them so they have the same name as the mensei movie but that doesn't work
