Also what are some other great MSX games besides what Konami and Compile made?

Yes, they work with TV's.

A large games database is Generation MSX, and I can recommend games from Microcabin (RPG's mostly).

You may have a lot of starter questions, make sure you dive into the MSX FAQ then! *fixed *

nikodr: dunno, as far as I understand the Sunrise/Bussum newspost as it was submitted, the first batch is for Bussum visitors, what's left goes to Finland, after that ppl can sign up by contacting norakomi directly.

I thought that a pity.
Always nice to see how a lot of oldschool game fans from the US seem to find their way to MSX anyway.

Some Japanese games will automatically swith to NTSC (60 hz) mode when booting.
This will cause multiple bouncing screens on some (older, European(?) television sets.

Ofcourse there are ways to avoid this happening (swith to 50 hz then starting the game), but:
If you want to experience the Japanese (and some Western) games the way the developers *exactly* meant them to be, you should play them in 'NTSC' mode.
There's quite a substantial difference in framerate and speed of the music/sound between 50 and 60 hz.
(The music is slower at 50 hz)

I think you're clear there however, because AFAIK American TV's also use 60 hz.

Have fun!

Not entirely true. Try and google Yamaha CX5M, very nice system and plays afaik almost all the msx1 games. It's the only MSX computer that was sold in the states, but it was intended for music composers.

Yes nikodr, the same with me!

It's over 15 years ago now, but I vividly recall my disappointment when great games like Thexder 2, Psycho World and Fantasm Soldier 2 turned out to be unplayable "at home".

Every time trying new games, and hoping/praying the pictures wouldn't roll all over the screen when having started up...
My mother screaming: "Stop that, you're screwing up the t.v.!!!"

Then, I got hold of an MSX 2+ with a Philips monitor. I still have that monitor.

Really? I swear I learn something new from the internet every day! It is a shame MSX2 never came out in the US though. The best games came out on that format.
