| Well, "The Chess Game MSX2" was actually a nice game! Came on tape tho, that was less funny.
|
we used to "fix" that problem by loading it before drinking tea/coffee. |

We used to do it during instead of before |

In the turn-based-strategy category I have always been fond of the Heroes Of Might and Magic series on the PC.
Even the first versions were very fun to play and, I would say, not out of MSX range (though I can't judge this, since I can't program or anything...).

actually it was very stupid to release any games for MSX2 at tape.
Mostly a MSX2 have a diskdrive. Only a few have not i think. I saw a "Victor" one time, which didn have any diskdrive.
Any MSX2+ games released on tape.
For sure a turbo-r game cant be released on tape
The strongest chess game for msx, must be colorssus 4, very good when you find out how to controll it ones i made a tournement for old computers i have in house. Like C64, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad 464 that time no working msx
It was a news back in 2001, when go64 found out. Suddenly i had a lot of hits on my homepage that time called dinocomputers.terrashare.com
But since the MSX version must be very close to the Amstrad 464 version, i dont think it will play much stronger than 464 version Why the c64 played so well i dont know the clock speed is not so good as msx, but maybe the processor of the c64 is better for chess play then z80.
I litte oftopic sorry

A few quite common MSX2's without diskdrive: Sony HB-F9P and Philips VG 8220.
The Sanyo PHC-35J MSX2+ does not have a disk drive. I guess it focusses on cartridge games or on people who already had an external drive. (Drives were expensive in those days.) The latter was also the reason for those MSX2's without drive, I think. They were like 30% cheaper.

There were some nice Panasonic MSX2 computers on eBay sometime ago, their don't have a internal DISK-DRIVE either, only the "RAM DISK" ... Should be good to play cartridge games!
Talking about Personal Computers, not every drive would use the two sides of the discs.
Actually, I believe that is a good feature to have a cassette with more than just one version of a game. Imagine, side one for MSX1 and side two for MSX2! It is even possible to make a tape with one side for a popular 8-bit computer and the B side for another popular 8-bit computer system!

I doubt of this. usually in this things the z80 performs better. maybe the difference is in coding the algo. (or in the algo itself) |

The soundchip and the videochip of the C64 is *way* better than what's in an MSX, the C64's CPU is quite a bit slower tho..

Duh... yes this happened in the 80s. But most of the time, tapes were recorded twice, in case one is messed up, the other may still work. And sometimes, side B is in 2400 baud. |

Real Time Dating Simulations ... With the RTC (Real Time Clock) and date calendar of the MSX 2/2+ it would be fairly easy to implement this type of games! Beautiful screen 7/8 graphics, even possible to make a MSX2+/ Turbo R only game with screen 10/12!
This type of game is easy to implement even on MSX-BASIC! Dating simulation software could be a breeze ...
How much games do you know that have differences between day and night !?

Tamagotchi for Windows... But that's not a game IMO.
BTW, Resident Evil for Sega Saturn used the internal clock and did not allow to be played during daytime.
Keeping on topic, virtual creatures, more Zelda-likes, Pokemon clones, management games or mixed genres like Harvest Moon could be done. |
