Well, let's hope people in europe are wise enough these days NOT to do a civil war then...

Besides what has all been said. The united states are relatively young. When Europe had established different countries, laws, governments and dealt with international affairs already the United States weren't even founded yet.
You're not going to throw away hundreds (thousands even) of years of history, battles and culture of countries in just a couple of years.
