| Umm... not really, no. You could send it to my gmail account if you split it up to 5MB pieces or so BTW what does your system say when you say "devices" in the command prompt? Perhaps all that crap was only added later on and the first SDKs don't mess things up too badly... in which case I could install it myself.
|
When I say devices, my computer says:
"devides ei tunnistettu sisäiseksi tai ulkoiseksi komennoksi,
suoritettavaksi ohjelmaksi tai komentojonotiedostoksi."
Hmm... I just took a look inside the directory stucture where the installation was made... It seems that there is some Zipped installation package together with some java stuff and documentation. How many times I'm expected to install this? I'll try to take a deeper look some day soon.

| Anyways, if I end up compiling a 92x0 version of MSX80, you'll probably have to try it out without me doing ANY testing as I don't have a phone to test that on and I can only see if it runs on the phone emulator on PC.

I remember, that I sent you a suggestion in email to help you with this issue already long time ago.

Thanks for the info and link, mars2k! I have added support for the 30/64/80-in-1 and 126-in-1 MegaROM mappers in the emulator although I couldn't test if they work as I don't have the ROM images of those to test the emulator...
NYYRIKKI, I think you didn't complete the installation yet. I downloaded & installed the SDK myself today and it's not the most clever thing I've come across. When you run the toplevel installer it just gives you a ZIP in the end, which, after the installer is done, you need to unpack yourself and once you've done that you'll notice that you have yet another installer which you need to run to actually get the stuff properly installed. But nevermind, I did all that already so I'll probably take a look at porting the MSX80 for 92xx phones later on when I get the next version of fMSX/S60 out -- which may take some time.
zett, the 9300 does not have a minus key on the keyboard at all, that's why you cannot get it in the emulator. But you can reconfigure the emulator's keyboard map if you need the minus key. Just go to control configuration menu, keyboard configuration and scroll down until you see the minus key. By default that is mapped to the phone's minus key but like I said, 9300 does not actually have a physical key for it eventhough the OS supports that key event. So you need to change that to some other key. Also note that when you do this you probably have to remove some other default key mapping as all the phone keys are by default already mapped to some MSX key and if you don't remove the duplicate key mapping for the MSX it will seem like you are pressing two keys simultaneously. To remove the duplicate mapping, just look through the list and find the duplicate mapping, go over it and press backspace on the phone. This will remove the key mapping for that MSX key. Perhaps I need to change this behavior in a future release so that duplicate mappings are automatically removed and thus it wouldn't be possible to define duplicate mappings at all.
Anyway I just put up the download for MSX80 release 2 today, it has a lot of internal changes, some of which are also visible Perhaps one of the most important things to notice is that for proper MSX2+ emulation you now need to have a 48kB sub ROM image instead of the old 16kB one. In practice this means that the sub ROM image needs to include both the actual MSX2+ sub rom and Kanji BASIC concatenated together. So don't try running MSX2+ emulation with the old 16kB MSX2+ sub ROM image, the emulator will probably crash if it doesn't first create some other havoc in the phone. See my MSX80 web page for a more complete list of changes http://personal.inet.fi/private/riihimaki/s80/ |

Please don't. Here speaks a man who occasionally plays Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on his 6260. You'd need an [N]+[SPACE] or [M]+[SPACE] to crawl, so it's comfortable to have this combo assigned to one phone key. Normally, when I've flipped the phone's screen, I use the top left button for [SPACE], top right button for [N]+[M]+[GRAPH]+[SHIFT]+[ESC] and the bottom right button for [N]+[M]+[SPACE]. This config works with most games, i.e. also SD-Snatcher.
The only button which can't be assigned is the 'edit' key (with the pencil on it )... |

Yep, maybe I won't. Perhaps I could just add a routine that checks if there are duplicate mappings after you make a key mapping and gives you a warning about it (with possibility to remove the duplicate mapping if you want).
I should take a look at the edit key some time, it should be mappable but perhaps there's something funny with the OS as the key is in fact a shift key on "normal" keyboard terms
Anyway there's a lot to do for fMSX/S60 to get all the new stuff I did for MSX80 rel2 merged back to the fMSX/S60 codebase. It'll also be a little bit tricky because on the 9300/9500 I could implement some of the rendering stuff bit easier as there is enough horizontal resolution on the phone display for all MSX screens which is not the case on most S60 phones so the rendering routines tend to be more complex for S60 (because I want to get optimal performance). I'll try to get a 1.14 version of fMSX/S60 done for the "b" and "d" variants and after that I will probably discontinue the "b" variant meaning no more updates unless I manage to introduce a critical bug in the 1.14 version. |

Hi there, I finally got the opportunity to try out this emulator, but I can't seem to get the rom images to the phone. I created the .sis file using your tool, but I guess the generated .sis file is not compatible with my phone (a Nokia N73, so I installed v1.13d).
I tried changing the Series60ProductID to 200005FB (I've read somewhere that this should be used for the N73), but it didn't work. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Oh, I just read that I have to transfer them manually to the memory card.
Unfortunately, I don't have a memory card so I guess I'm out of luck at the moment... (I'm not allowed to create a Games/fmsx directory in the root oh my phone's memory).

Yep, the current version of the emulator for S60 3rd edition devices only uses memory card. I'll add an option to choose the drive (phone memory or memory card) in the next version but I'm afraid it might take up to some weeks until I get the 1.14d version out as I have a lot to do for it. The "older" variants of the emu use the same drive as where the emu is installed if I remember correctly.

Don't worry, I'll just get myself a memory card |

I just noticed today that there's a bug in the MSX80 rel2, if you try to launch the emulation directly from a save state when MSX80 asks for this, it will crash. Save states can be saved and loaded normally from the pause menu, however. I'll see what's going wrong and release an update later on.
eleeot, I haven't tested fMSX/S60 on a real E61, just on the emulator with the same display resolution as E61. However it *should* work. Did you put any MSX system ROMs on your memory card yet? If you did, where did you put them and what are the names and sizes of the system ROM files that you are using? Typically hanging problems are caused by invalid system ROMs because the emulator does no checking for the file contents if it just finds some files with the right names.

yes i used system rom files from fmsx distrib and put them exacly where it was needed -
into directory: \E:\Games\fmsx\systemrom
they are:
DISK.ROM
MSX.ROM
MSX2.ROM
MSX2EXT.ROM
MSX2PEXT.ROM

If you're able to change the machine type (MSX1 -> MSX2 -> MSX2+) in the machine config menu then you have the files in the right location (not necessarily right files though). Make sure you don't have any of the other options from the machine config menu enabled unless you install ROMs for them as well. I'll try to find someone with an E61 to test the emu myself next week. Does the emulation work if you try it with no cartridges or disks? That should get you to MSX BASIC.

I'd be glad to help in testing if you have some special rom for me to put into roms directory so i know what exact settings in the machine setup i should set. So please can you give me link for some rom for which i should choose for example MSX1?
