gloe~
Has anyone ever concidered to use the James Bond concept for an RPG?
It has planty of advantages, characters are already developed, storyline shouldn't be too hard (it never was so in the movies), music is already done for 50% (Monty Norman's/John Barry's themes)..
and .. 'legal' ? who carez anyway |

The most amusing part of a RPG is perhaps the scenario. I'm a great RPG-fan but I would surely not play a James Bond-RPG. I personally hate all those games inspired by or based on movies or television programs. Oh, we can create a game, but we don't need to be creative in any sense - we just rip everything off the movie. And it doesn't matter if the game is bad, everyone will buy it since it says - movie title - on the cover of the box. Argh...
I don't remember I ever played a game based on a movie or television program that really was fun to play.

Yeahwell, I didn't mean ripping a whole movie, but rather think of a new script. Basicly it could be about some evil guy bombimg the world orso, and the 'shop' could be Q, the boss could be 'M'.
The atmospthere could be bond'ish by using the wellknown music mixed up with own themes.
Games based on movies in the pc world are mostly 1st person shooters. No matter what the theme is/was, 1st person shooters are boring anyway, so do'nt let that misslead you. An RPG is alot more fun to play. Suppose there was some unknown Japanese anime film, you never heard of, called 'Xak', does this automaticly mean that suddenly the game is bad?

I think it could work if you only took the characters and the one plot rule. (Bad guy treatens world) but for the rest you would still need to create most things themeselves except for music maybe.
Now I personnally think that most Groups who didn't finish there RPG projects didn't had problems with the story but more with the codeing of the engine. And you won't solve this problem with the James Bond idea.
About first person shooters being borring. I agree mostly with exception of Max Payne. One of the few pc- games which was innovative, looked good and had a okay story (not really good but okay I said here)
One funy thing about this Max Payne stole bullet time from the Matrix as anybody knows now we have the Enter the matrix game which stole a lot of things from Max Payne.
And yes here again the movie based game can't compete with the orriginal.
Oops Max Payne is third person. Since it is a non msx game let's hope there won't be massive reactions about it like the time that Wames made his bigest error with typeing space manbow incorrect. 8) 8)
