I would like to connect it to my real msx.

Real diskdrives can only be used in the Linux version at the moment, since for Linux there is no difference between a disk image and a real disk drive (just specify /dev/fd0 as disk image). There is no workaround for Windows (yet), as far as I know. Serial ports: there is no emulation at all of this at the moment, let alone emulation via the real serial port on the PC.
If you really want this, be free to submit a feature request to our feature request tracker on openmsx.sf.net. |

I really enjoy watching openMSX progressing... It will be "The MSX Emulator" (I never give up saying that xD). By the way, I prefer using fMSX-DOS or BrMSX with a Pentium 166 Mhz |

I've just finished some tests with version 0.3.1 of openMSX for Windows. This emulator is really fantastic : this version is optimised and I can finally run it in fullscreen mode without synchro problems between the differents parts of the emulation (graphic, music, ...). The Turbo-R part is really impressive : I've tried the Swiss demo and it works very good (only a little background problem in the 3D part ), PCM is also emulated !
So, I think that we are all very impatient to see (and hear !) the next version with Moonsound emulation .... and to discover the launchpad that will simplify the use of this emulator !
If you prefer boosted general configurations, I've just updated my site (in French). The direct links to the openMSX pages are :
http://www.marsupone.com/msx/openmsx.htm
http://www.marsupone.com/msx/openmsx5.htm
On the second page, you can download a file with 11 boosted general configurations ! Still More Fun With MSX ! |

I can already say Moonsound emulation sounds very good on openMSX Win32, though Wolf's opinion may be more accurate when it comes to sound. And as for the launcher, I'll start with it when the project I'm currently working on is in a far enough state I can start with other projects.

Hi all!
And what about 0.3.2?
What do you think about the Moonsound emulation?
The many new configurations?
For next release, there might be some `boosted' custom configurations included, and possibly also a launcher (at least for Linux). The launcher will not have all features that are available with the command line, but it should be enough to do the most common things.
I hope that will help to stimulate the popularity of it! |

OpenMSX is far to compilcated for me right now. I like plug and play If you think linux is nice, great, but I am not going to do anything with it... the moment you get it running with a disk in A: and windows XP I'll take a look at it. |

What do you mean? The Windows version runs just nicely in Windows XP.
Try this: install the Windows versoin and drop a ROM file on the openMSX executable. It should run! Is that hard?
Allright, if you want more complicated things, you will need to put the correct ROM images in the correct dir and use the command line like this: openmsx -machine Philips_NMS_8250 diskimage.dsk (for a Philips NMS 8250), or edit share/settings.xml and change the default machine from CBIOS-MSX2 to this Philips, and you can even drop disk imaes on the openMSX.exe icon...
There will be a settings editor (some time) in the future. There will be a launcher in the (near) future. There will be a GUI in the (farther) future. But it is not there now. So, you can either just read the documentation (i.e. put a little effort in it) and experience the most accurate MSX emulation available (according to the comparison on this site), or...... not! And then just use NLMSX or so, if you run Windows. It's your free choice!
(Luckily, I have also seen people who just had a brief glance through the docs and were able to run the emulator quite easily; people like mars2000you, maggoo, dexx... it seems that the barrier is more psychological than something else...)

I think Manuel is right. It takes more efforts to get openMSX running the way you want it than with other emulators. Once it runs though.. it runs everyting! (well.. almost everything) |

Sjoerd asked about REAL floppy support, something that openMSX doesn't do for Windows right now.

It's GREAT. First time I every saw a working emulator that could emulate a harddisk, OPL4 sound just the state my MSX was in when I quit working with it. While I'm writing this i am running an emulated Turbo-R GT in the background playing a .mod file with the NMP.
Too bad the full screen performance is a bit dissapointing (Win32) but I assume this will improve in the future.
One thing I miss is a option to copy files directly to the harddisk file. Maybe there is another way besides copying files to a disk image, restarting the emulator and copying the files in MSXDOS to HD?
oh and I can seem to find the YRW801.ROM. Does anybody know where to find it or do I need it to rip from my own moonsound cartridge? |
