Some of you might already have seen the GCW-Zero in action on the MSX meeting in Nijmegen. For those who have not Vampier put a movie together. Currently Maarten Ter Huurne, one of the openMSX developers, is working on openDingux for this nifty little gadget which is an open source gaming console for homebrew and emulators. If you are interested take a look at kickstarter.com

Cute. And the FM sounds better than in my GP2X (that wasn't very difficult tho Hannibal ).

Likes: The black model on the kickstarter web. The proper FM.
Dislikes. The name! Too complicated...

Likes: Formfactor
Dislikes: Toolchain only for Linux. 320x240 screen
Fears: The price. Anything above of $69 retail is a hard sell for these things.

The kick-starter made their initial target goal of $130.000 today Smile

Please see the stretch-goals for added perks if the funding hits other certain levels.

Just overlooked the description but I was unable to find information about:
1) Retail Price when it's ready
2) Independently of the perks, I'm assuming 130k would be enough to release the console and offer it to the market. Maybe through a direct sales channel (internet). When is that supposed to happen? I mean, those 130k would be used to support development right? That cost should have been calculated along with a schedule. Where it is?

Final retail price would have been one of my first items to analyse before putting money on the project. IMHO, market can pay premium prices for better products (when compared to YINLIPS-like). But, of course, you need differentiation and not so much higher price...

This device basically suffers from the same problem that the others do. A lower resolution than most eighties computers.

I forgot that.
How well Xperia Play runs emulators? Do you get full speed for MSX, Spectrum, C64, SNES, PSX and etc?

Rgds,
