it's how things go in domain name world nowadays...

This is different from some years ago: samor.nl was originally registered by a company I worked at (so I could use it, paid the company for it as well)... I stopped using it at some point and we let it expire (in 2002). There were no snagging companies at the time and I reregistered it 4 years later... and let it expire again this year since I had done pretty much nothing with it ever since... after it expired this time, it was immediately snagged by a domain trading company... I'm pretty sure they're betting on these things to be accidents and then hopeing you want the name back.

samor: exact, also I reckon they don't mind the extra ad revenue from visitors who are expecting the 'old website'. Regulating this stuff is nigh impossible though. If a company in the Netherlands goes by the same name as a company in Belgium, then which one would be entitled to the ".com", other than simply the company who registers it first? Finding a good name for a new company is becoming increasingly tough, as the availability of the related domain names usually becomes quite the problem.

Fact is that domains end up in the wrong hands all too often. If I'm not mistaken there even are/were "check if this domain name is still available"-services that register the domain name you're interested in. Nasty stuff...

tfh: Who says they actually paid (that much) for the domain. In the google cache there recently was a German party trying to sell the domain for $25k. I think these domain-farmers exchange their unsold domains and eventually dump them for low prices.

Well, the bidding mentioned a price of 5900 Euro if I remember correctly.
Besides: Latok mentioned that he also did some bidding, and since the start bid was 2500 euro, he must at least have placed a bid of 2500 euro's, so... it's quite logical to assume the 5900 euro was actually paid...

I know, I know --- it's just that I wonder if the domain was sold on action, or that the domain was "sold" on auction ;P
