A month ago, nine MSX games entered the MSXdev'11 arena to battle for the title. After a month of playing, testing and judging, the results are in.

  1. Zombie Incident (Nenefranz)
  2. Alter Ego (TNI)
  3. M-Tanks (Assembler)
  4. Jumping (Dimension Z)
  5. Mecha Eight (Óscar Toledo Gutiérrez)
  6. ExChess (Garlic Soft)
  7. KillMice (Andrea Gasparrini)
  8. Robots (Michel d’Alger)
  9. ZoneTNT (Andrea Gasparrini)

Especially among the top 3, the final scores sit closely together, a testament to this year's quality. Zombie Incident got a score of 86.67% and was the most original game with the best graphics and best music. Alter Ego won a score of 82% and was the most polished game featuring the best gameplay. Assembler, a new member of the MSX scene, won the third place with M-Tanks which scored 75.33%.

With that, MSXdev'11 turns out to be one of the better editions when we look at the quality of the games, it bodes well for the future! For now, Nenefranz, Sun, and our own John Hassink deserve a cheer and a beer for Zombie Incident!

Nice results! Smile
mars if it's possible, I'd like to change my prize rule "Games that ranked 2 to 4 *and* have an overall score of 70% or more will each get 25 €."
to: "Games that ranked 2 to 4 *and* have an overall score of 67.67% or more will each get 25 €."
Is that OK with you? This would mean Jumping gets 25 euros from me.

THANKSS!! ... and congratulations to all participants in the dev. I think that the most important success of the competition is to obtain nine games for the standard.
I wanted to congratulate and thank John Hassink and Sun (paco) for their great work and help, without them Zombie Incident would not have been what it is.
I would also like to thank to Toni Galvez, Valkyr and Saccophraynx for their advice and help ... any help is apprecitated. Smile
I hope people are encouraged to participate in future editions of the dev. With initiatives like JumpinG (thanks to Pepe Vila), there are few excuses for not daring. Big smile

Best regards,

PS: thanks to NANA for your patience  Wink

Congrats to the winners, there were some really good games produced by all the contestants.  Some quite impressive techniques used to get the most out of our favourite retro computer system.

The first two were as I'd expected. I expected it would eventually be between ZI and AE. It's perhaps the originality that gave ZI the edge.

Indeed, the "originality" and "polish" are two determining categories in the final ranking and I think they are not quite well defined/judged.

First of all, what is considered original??... a game with a new concept in general?? only within the MSX universe??... whatever the definition may be, I think a game should get some extra points when it's original instead of being penalized when it isn't.

About the "polish" thing... IMHO, I consider a game being polished when it has no bugs, when it works perfectly in all machines and configurations, when it checks if the player keeps a key pressed at menus so that the he/she doesn't select the next sub-option by mistake... you know, that kind of things. Extra stuff like demo modes, hidden/unlockable features, etc, fit much more in the the same category than using extra soundchips for the music or taking profit from the MSX2/MSX2+ vdp's capabilities for improvements, not in the "polish" category.
