I recently bought a Sony HB-F1XDJ MSX2+ computer. I also bought a MSX2+/Turbo-r RGB>Scart cable from Retrocables.se. The cable doesn't seem to work. I got the same problem as mentioned in this forum: the screen is scrolling en flickering.

I sent an email to Retrocables.se and got the following reply:
'I find the posible problem, in f1-XDJ pin 5 go to GND, in other model go to +5V, and that is the problem, don't have 5v to active RGB signal in TV. The image shows in black and white too?'.

My picture is not black and white, but in color (I can seen the blue MSX background). I tried both a Sony and a Philips tv, and they should be able to pick up a NTSC signal.

I'm not a techy, but what I understand from the reply is that the Sony HB-F1XDJ needs a different cable than other MSX2+/Turbo-r computers. Is that correct? If so, is anyone willing to sell me a RGB>Scart cable that has worked on a Sony HB-F1XDJ?

No your monitor(s) needs a voltage (5 or 12V) to switch their display to the RGB signal, and that 5 or 12V is not on any pin on the F1XDJ's RGB connector. Read: not something you could fix with another cable.

Can't confirm whether that's true or not, but if this pin on the RGB connector is indeed wired to ground, proper fix would be to re-wire that pin to +5 or 12V through a series resistor (that is: internally in the machine, near the connector).

Btw: have you tried manually selecting the RGB input on your TV's? (rather than just switch on MSX and watch)

Hello,
I had the same problem with a Sony F1XV

I used a Turbo-r RGB video scart, that's supposed to be the same for the Sony XV, but the image is always rolling on any tv or monitor i tied.
I'm using a multi-scart on my TV ; to connect others computers without have to disconnect the scart behind the TV.

One day, trying the Sony XV, I connected both the RGB Scart , and the cinch video output to the multi-scart...
And miracle ! I got a beautiful full RGB picture !

So try this... if you have a multi-scart like this one http://www.darty.com/wcsstore/Darty/fr_FR/images/product/zoo...

Connect the RGB scart
Connect the cinch video-output with a scart adaptator.
Connect the both to the multi-scart... And see..

Hi ericb59. In another thread I read about the solution to connect both the scart and the video-output. I connected both to the monitor, but with no improvement.

But what I've should have done is connect the video to scart as well using the multiscart you mentioned. Thanks for the advice. I'll order a multi scart and let you know if this is the solution for me as well.

ok. Let me know...
But don't use a multiscart with switch selector. Use the more basic one..

I have also the same sony computer and no problems.
I bought this cable at:
www.bas-ditta.info

But use the first scart-connector on your TV. Mostly is that the only one with RGB-input

B-)

Yes repair-bas ; this your scart cable that I'm using Wink
It's works well with my Panasonic WSX, and my Turbo-r ST...
But with the Sony XV image is rolling.
I have only one scart connector on my TV... so i can't be in trouble !

Perhaps something wrong in some Sony MSX2+ RGB output ?

You wrote the cable is from retrocables in the first post of this topic

But is that scart on your TV RGB?
And your TV, is it compatible with NTSC?
Cool

it's not me who wrote the first post of this topic !?!
I have the same problem, solved by connecting both Scart and Cinch video output at the same time to a multi-scart.
My TV is just works fine with my Turbo-R and my WSX... so it must be fine with a sony XV ?! ?

@ericb59: I ordered this multiscart. It looks like a solid scart box. It doesn't have a switch - so I should be good (fingers crossed).

@Repair-Bas: the scart on both my tv's are RGB and both tv's should be NTSC compatible. I bought this tv especially for retro computing. So I expect it's either the cable or (hope not) the Sony HB-F1XDJ. But since ericb59 is having the same problems, I suspect it's a combination of both (quite confusing). By the way, you say that you "bought" the cable at www.bas-ditta.info, but aren't you Bas from "bas-ditta"?
