raymond: can you bring your tablet with you to the Nijmegen MSX fair? I'm curious into the missing icon problem and would like to investigate it
Yes, no problem. I will bring it with me.
Mayan symbols!?
what else am I supposed to call those shiny sun-like incomprehensible mystic symbols ?
Ah, you mean the hand-held OSD icon set! Well, feel free to redesign them

I think he means the sdl joystick theme.
Alex showed me how to change it when the SDL logo shows during startup, it is themable but has nothing to do with the openMSX iconset
thank you, turbor... those are the ones I mean, and I found out how to change them thanks to your post... so that's an SDL feature? ...such an odd default. I'm glad I could change it.
well, that just leaves my other suggestion.. to make the interface more touch-friendly.
the menus seem fine to me but if possible I'd like to navigate them with touch controls, not with an onscreen d-pad.
They're also not really in line with standard Android controls visually but that's secondary, as long as they're easy to use.
Just to be clear: I'm nitpicking about controls because at first sight I have nothing to complain about the emulation itself

Those are perfect and made on an MSX :)
yes, those are fine.
The on screen menu is the default on screen menu from openMSX, which is also available on other platforms. For example, on windows and linux platform it is bound to the menu key, for keyboards that have a menu key. I don't know to which key it is bound on the Mac. That is why the menu currently works with the d-pad and also with cursor keys (on windows, linux and on Mac and also on Android when you install the 'hackers' keyboard app and select the mode that shows the cursor keys).
At the moment I'm planning to keep the look and feel of this menu as-is but to add touch support for Android and other devices with a touch interface.
