I don't know about that, but it's very easy to install: click on the link and Android will download it. Then go to downloads and tap the file and it will be installed. It will ask you whether it is OK to install non-store apps though.

But, as it is not installing from the market, will it be difficult to uninstall in case of problems?. I mean, will it leave files behind on an uninstall if needed?

To uninstall openMSX: press and hold the icon in the app manager for a few seconds and then drag and drop it to the trashcan. At least, that is how it is done on a samsung galaxy nexus with stock android 4.x. This will uninstall openMSX and remove the configuration settings from the splash-menu.

Though, the folder <sdcard>/openMSX with all system roms and the openmsx preferences will be retained. You will have to manually delete it if you want to completely get rid of all traces.

We plan to eventually put the stable release of openMSX in google play, under my publisher account (xelasoft) so that anybody can choose between running either the stable official release from google play or running the latest build from the fixato build server. The above mentioned behaviour will be the same when you install from google play. It is intentional behaviour so that you can uninstall and re-install openMSX without loosing all system roms and your openmsx preferences.

Note that the developer builds of openMSX/Android are working again. They can be downloaded from the good old openmsx.fixato.net site.

As we're preparing for a release, please give us your final comments on the developer builds. Then we can take the along!

As I e-mailed Alex, for me this build also doesn't work. The previous one did. It seems to be related to the installer, as it seems to miss many dirs/files in the openMSX system dir.

Hallo,

I'm trying OPENMSX for Android with the latest version downloaded some days ago.
I found it a wonderful App. Infact i've just bought a bluetooth keyboard to use with my emulated-MSX on the Galaxy TAB3 8".

Can I give some feedbacks?

1) What about the rotation of the screen? When the tablet-keyboard or the msx-onscreen-keyboard are shown it could be useful if keyboards do not cover the msx display
2) I found the tablet-Keyb slower than the emulated one.
3) Settings: it could be useful to let the user set one or more machine directory and one or more games directory from the settings tab
4) The settings pop-up: nice to include a classic tablet scrolling made by finger
5) On a tablet is a must to include a better DSK,ROM,etc browser like fmsx does, for example (maybe with automatic screenshots?)
6) what about laserdisc?
7) icon on the screen: useful but a little bit uncomprensible, expecially the direction keys on the left bottom
8) I think a Catapult version is fundamental. Maybe OELSHA is working about an alternative android gui for openmsx? While on a PC the powerful console is very nice and esay to use, on a tablet it results very difficult.

I came back after a new testing: at the moment I found your openMSX the best emulation port on android and with my bluettoth keyboard I'm gonna transorm my GALAXY TAB 3 to a MSX with tons of woftware.

Good work to all guys.

Thanks for your feedback. Some reactions:
1) This is a known issue indeed.
2) What exactly do you mean with tablet-keyboard and emulated one?
3) The file browser remembers the last used directories and has short cuts to the sdcard's share/software directory
4) We half-implemented touch scrolling. It kind of works, but it's not completely like how you would expect. Try a bit!
5) automatic screenshots? Who should make them and when?
6) a known issue indeed. We'll enable it some time in the future.
7) you can change the theme in the SDL setup, perhaps the others are clearer for you?
8) Why do you need a Catapult? Almost everything can be done with the built in menu... Try the menu key! Some people even prefer it on PC Smile I don't know what OELSHA is working on, but I don't think a separate GUI is very comfortable on a phone or tablet.

Thanks again for your feedback and enjoy openMSX!

You're welcome.

2) If I use a bottom-right button an MSX board appears. Instead if i tap the upper-left button the Tablet-Keyboard appears. The very useful thing is that both of them interact with the emulated machine. Ok, how can I obtain the " character on the MSX-Keyboard?
3) OK, but how can I easy add more machine to open-MSX? Whic is the right folder where i must put the roms? May I chose instead any preferred folder on the SD?
5) See FMSX for Android. It's nice to have a screenshot when we exit the emulators and is very nice to have a itunes-style browsing of the games through the screenshots.

See you soon and thanks again for your job.

2) the OSD keyboard has a hold function, which makes it possible to hold down SHIFT for example, while pressing another key. This can be activated with the 2nd mouse button on a desktop PC. But I think we forgot to manage this correctly for touch screens Smile I'll make a ticket for this new issue.
3) Just put the system roms in the systemroms folder, its location is explained here: http://openmsx.sourceforge.net/manual/setup.html#installrom - if you insist you can also assign any other folder as system rom folder, but you will need to use the openMSX console to set that up, see: http://openmsx.sourceforge.net/manual/commands.html#filepool
I suggest to just use the default pool.
5) Ah, that's nice indeed, so when quitting openMSX, save the state automatically? Note that you can already save states manually and browse them with screenshot in the "Load state" menu option from the main menu.

including screenshots of games would break a bunch of copyright laws and we are not going to do this
