Managed to isolate and apply SLotman's fix "changing controls from Q/A/O/P to cursor keys" (you really want that on MSX if not using a joystick !). Will try to release a new version tomorrow.
Let's continue in this thread. No reason to have the discussion going in several threads. I'll post here from now on. Btw. t would be so cool if we could hack in the Laser Squad theme. Just dreaming here. Maybe someone did an AY-rendition of the Amiga music.
There was a CPC reverse engineering version as well: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/programming/reverse-engineering-...

I've been dreaming about this as well ... but the PC versions music! I guess that has something to do with the fact I played the PC version back in the day (not the Amiga version).
Let's fix some small MSX-version specific bugs first

Looks like they decided to shift the screen to the right for the MSX version (maybe they had badly centered CRTs ??), but did not notice things were overlapping to the right.
I'll release a new version for you to test tonight or tomorrow.
Uploaded the new version here.
Changes are:
- No more crash on MSX with memory-mapper enabled RAM expansion.
- Display bugs shown above are fixed.
Great work!
On CPC they have also started to improve the graphic
This is the full tile set in a 4bpp mode
I thought about giving the English translation from the Italian release a try (http://www.icongames.com.br/msxfiles/blog-en/laser-squad-msx/), but can anyone tell me a MSX model in OpenMSX that supports this game?
The notes state it won't work with some, but would be easier to state which one it works with as I tried a lot of them and it won't work with any lol, the further I got was to select the scenario and then it gets stuck at a black screen :(
I just finished the disk version. It can be downloaded here. I'll publish that on my website and make an announcement later.

I quickly tried the game a few weeks ago, but I couldn't really quickly figure out what to do... is there a short manual available?
