Metal gear 2 computer room

I was just playing metal gear solid snake a while ago. In one of the first "levels" you come across a computer room. There are two guards there and you can see a "map" of the buildings. But there is nothing to do there. You can complete the game without ever entered this room. Could it be this was some kind of joke of Kojima?, to mock the metal gear from the NES, where the end boss isn't metal gear, but is replaced by a super computer.

Isn't it where the Zanzibar anthem is first played?
I think it's sort of a "hint" room.

It's not like Kojima doesn't like to pull these stunts, the bonus missions in Ground Zeroes are full of them... but I don't think he was mocking the NES versions at the time ....although you never know.

Oh yeah, you are right, the anthem is being played Well, guess we'll never know the true intensions of that room. I always thought of it being pretty useless.

I think the anthem being played WAS the purpose of the room. It, along with the accompanying dialogue, made it clear that whenever the Zanzibarland anthem is played, guards would have to stop what they're doing and salute -- something that would be handy to remember later on in the game if and when you found the Zanzibarland national anthem on cassette tape.

Basically, it was like a tutorial room in disguise.

If Snake would have been better educated in hacking, the game maybe ended in the computer room...

If you listen to the ost of solid snake, you can hear two versions of the zanzibar theme. One is normal and the other is deformed like a cassetteplayer on almost empty batteries

I always wondered if there was a hidden joke in the controlroom. Something like throwing a granade in the controlroom which result in hearing the deformed theme.

There’s a Zanzibar Land National Anthem cassette item later in the game, around the Predator boss area iirc. If you play it too often it breaks down, you get the deformed theme.

This tape is being used to let soldiers salute so you can sneak past.
Wasn't either the tape or the player inside a closet there where all those beds are? With the sleeping soldiers and squeekey floor?
