Great that you have found a solution. I have a dilemma now! Which machine do I want it on most!
Oh dear. I have ordered the game planning to dump it and play on openMSX. Like I did with some games before. Guess both of these will be impossible in the near future. I'll have to think it over, but I may want to cancel my order.
Hello there!
After reading some comments and receiving some emails I see there is a possibility for confusion because some people tend to read what they want instead of what I actually have written, so I belive a clarification is in order:
I just want to state that I have never claimed to have created my own mapper or that we have created something new.
What I said is the cartridges we use for the standard MSX version go beyond 4096Kb and they are not compatible with msxVR.
Please take a moment to understand and assimilate what I have written here.
Also please understand that my reason to write this message is to defuse some gossip that has started regarding this thread.
Please read carefully what I have written and try not to invent/imagine different meanings other than the exact words I have written.
Next month when people start receiving Metal Dragon, I am sure some people will open the cartridge even before than testing the game in order to saciate their curiosity.
Again:
I have never claimed to have created my own mapper or that we have created something new.
What I said is the cartridges we use for the standard MSX version go beyond 4096Kb and they are not compatible with msxVR.
Take care everyone and have an exelent weekend ^_^
Thanks for making a MSX-VR Version, ordered yesterday!
Ordered the MSX-VR version

What questions us is why the MSX version doesn't work on the MSXVR. From what you are saying, the cause is not due to too slow emulation nor to the mapper that is not emulated. So it's therefore normal that we ask ourselves questions.
I don't know why it doesn't work on the MSXVR, that is something that only the MSXVR team knows ^_^!
Black hawk, Raymond and the previous ones, thank you, guys for your pre-orders ^_^
Does the MSXVR version also work with a real V9990 cartridge or didn't you try that? Just asking because I'm having trouble using a real GFX9000 with an MSXVR.

Oh I think I have solved the riddle. But I am not going to tell anyone.

Probably because the BASIC implementation corresponding to GFX9000 screens is specific to MSXVR (and imho different from the 'classical' G-BASIC).
