I received Carnivore 2

To start with, you need to format the CF card, use
call"fdisk"
Then you need to copy Nextor files to the card.

You can use your MSX formatted card in a PC to copy files, I would suggest using Sofarun.
The disk images would need to be converted to .ROM files as far as I remember, however, if you boot up with no CF card installed, you should get the basic C2 screen, with the simple Basic+IDE+FMPAC+SCC startup option.

Did you buy your card new?

The tipo is CALL FDISK (without quotes)

I wish I could buy the card new but damn 8bit store it is always out of stock, out of stock, out of stock, out of stock, out of stock, I am dying of old age and it is out of stock. So I bought it from eBay. LOVE THE FLASHING LED THOUGH that is hot!!

I enter right into basic. I have the CF format it and partitioned as 16 MB from inside MSX itself and not even Windows
I toke the CF and extracted sofarun into the CF, then put it back into carnivore 2. As soon as I restart the MSX it finds the hard drive but goes right into BASIC and refuses to run SofaRUN.

This is an ancient Boot Menu. Whom did you buy the cartridge from?
