I love my 16 fixed colours palette!!!
I love my 16 fixed colours palette!!!
I only love 14 of them.
I'd say that DUNGEON HUNTER, the game bundled with the Terminator-X gun produced by ASCII was quite crude and raw. Have a look at the intro. Although being Speccy-alike, ALTERED BEAST also has some good gore graphics.
About colours, there's a subtle difference: on some MSX1 models, COLOR 8 looks red and COLOR 6 is almost brown; on others, COLOR 8 is a dark orange and COLOR 6 is dark red. This is specially notorious when you compare SONY vs PHILIPS colours.
The problems are in the MSX1 palette.
To represent gore and violence you need blood and darkness, things that MSX1 can hardly represent with its wishy-washy color palette taken from a second hand candy shop
I say the only problem is in people´s own imagination or lack of it. (no need to get angry
)
As when you think about it, blood doesn´t have to be "BLOOD RED", as what colours you can see, is matter of which kind of light source you have there. In dark scene, blood can be BLACK!! And you surely know it´s BLOOD if you see it dripping from the body..... or if you put your videoguys against blue sky and want games player to clearly SEE that blood, I should say red is not best possible colour to be used against blue background, you could use black blood instead for better contrast.
For LARGE pools of blood, remember you can and MUST use other colours too, than just those three reds, you must think which kind of light source there is, if the light is BLUE, blood surely will NOT look just red, but blueish red or even some lilac hue.
In green light, blood will surely be GREENish!
But anyway, you can of course use just those three available reds for blood, I don´t mind.

Toshiba HX-10 reds:
COLOR 6: very much like BROWN, thought not as brown as Commodore 64 brown.
COLOR 8: bit brownish red
COLOR 9: orange
So, the best option is pure B&W games. By the way, what monochrome game do you like most? I'd say SNOOPY (ZX version) 'cause it keeps the original comic strip feeling. About MSX games, probably Jon Ritman's BATMAN and HEAD OVER HEELS, but all Ultimate Filmation 1 & 2 games are also high in my preferences.
Being B&W I'd say "La Abadia del Crimen" (along with the Ritman's games, of course). It has really wonderfull and moody scenarios.
Jack the Nipper or Avenger were good ones, although I can't remember if they had colors or not. Same goes to Hostages, The Light Corridor, Black Beard or Rock 'n Roller, all nice b&w games imho.
Avenger has some speccy colouring, but it is nice and fast. Totally agree with Jack the Nipper and the rest of titles that you propose. Curiously enough, Black Beard for Spectrum had colour, whereas the MSX version totally lacked of it. Guess that it was related to speed, but it makes me feel sad.
Considering other Spanish titles, you have got Madmix, Madmix 2 and Silent Shadow. Nice games.
A racing game like Rock´n Roll Racing or a shooting game like Crusader No Remorse in Filmation. Even monochrome, they would be really cool!
