Got my SD drive -kit- today! (was at work yesterday, so picked it up at the post office this afternoon). Many thx, Erikie! First thoughts:
* A few corner pins on the CPLD were bent - nothing my pocket knife couldn't fix
* Judging by the color, the gold layer on the contacts is about as thin as it gets. But I guess it will do, and much better than tin contacts.
* Optical inspection showed nothing out of the ordinary - good job.
* A quick check tells me that all the parts should fit nicely. It's been a while since I soldered a PLCC part, but I'll manage
* It looks good! And small..! (half the size of a Sunrise CF interface)
Don't have any unused Konami cases (just 2 SCC's, and I won't touch those for this purpose). I tried the casing of a Sony 16K memory cartridge (with the metal shield at the connector): it should fit if you cut away everything that sits in the way. And once you do that, I have no clue how to keep the PCB in place. So not a good fit, this case
Next to try: Sub-Logic flight simulator cart. I have 2 of those, don't like flight sims, but do like that case (Koei-style I think, with screws). Soldering to be done over the weekend or next week.
Saeba: so, yes, there are 2 designs (my MegaFlash cart is definitely different from my Manbow 2 cart). But who made them exactly?
Manuel, when you got that MegaFlash?
If it is previous of Manbow 2 that would explain the box.
In fact my MegaFlash SCC was made from my original Contra. My MegaFlash SRAM was made from another cart. But from one point till now they are all look the same.
If your megaflash is a new one then I can't explain!
Good to hear you like it. I continue working on casings for the current batch of PCBs. Hopefully I have some news in a few days. Going to expirement a bit with Casio casings soon
Koei style cases are no good. The PCB pins are 5 mm to high. What I want to try is to make some own pcb hold pins or how do you call such a thing with PCB holders and screws. Something should fit ...
Sorry about the CPLD pins, I think I was overenthusiastic packing that thing.
What about creating a page explaining the different hardwares available to MSX? Maybe at TNI or Graw. With Megaram, MegaFlash, ESE-SCC and etc...
I ordered my MegaFlash directly at Manuel Pazos, in March 2007.
Manuel, in March 2007 the new cases were not available yet. So I used different ones for MegaFlashROM SCC.
Looking for a case, I found one that fits quite nice:
As you can see, it's a Decathlon case. I like this case because it has 2 screws to open and close the case. Much easier than the plastic clips on the Konami cases.
There's HotBit on the label, does this mean it's a Sony case ?
Only three things I need to change:
- the LED's are positioned to high, need to lower them to get in the case.
- have to make some room for the capacitors by removing some plastic from the inside of the case with a grinding tool.
- need to make some holes for the SD cards and the switch
To be continued.... ;)
Nahhh, not from sony.
It's a Brazilian cartridge from the Brazilian MSX homecomputer called Hot Bit, made by Sharp.
I was mistaken with HITBIT then
Anyway good find. It looks like some other producers had the konami location of the pegs
