Telenet kind of proved with that port that they were pretty decent at game making.
They were no Konami or Falcom, but they will always have a special place in my heart for their quirky, psychedelic game designs and their awesome (I think underrated) soundtracks.
Games like Andorogynus, Sa-Zi-Ri, XZR, Valis II... it was love at first sight for me. So unique. So... different. But clearly done with a vision, with dedication. With a philosophy behind it. Sorry for the rant, but I still love them to death. They were really something else, and I wished they'd still exist, making games like no one else could. I miss them so much...
@JohnHassink: I really agree with you about Telenet, but supposedly this game was not programmed by them but Compile. This is also one of the games that supports MSX Audio (because of that).
Really wish Karoshi would have or will finish this game someday. Really miss the 2 player option in the orginal version!!!
Weird, it explicitly says "REPROGRAMMED BY TELENET JAPAN", but it was actually programmed by Compile?
Looking at the disk image, I see DISCSTATION references, so that would seem to support that...
What I never understood is why there are 3 musics available in the game (you can listen to them from the main menu: LOTHO, LATHESIS, ATROPOS), but during the game itself, you only hear the first one. Is this due to the 2-player option that was canceled at some late stage?
Yes, supposedly this was well known in Japan back in the day even, along with a couple of other games compile did for others.
I also always wondered what the deal was with not being able to choose these songs. I could never find some key sequence or something like that to activate them in game. So I figured it would be something less obvious or even a copy protection (but I highly doubt that). I bought the game to check it, but when you look through the manual the texts of the manual and the visuals all are pointing to the Sega version. There is a loose sheet (let's call it an addendum or something) that points out what is different in the msx version. In neither of them there is a description of how to activate those songs. The sega way is a very clear and cut way, which allows you to activate it from the menu. You can't do it similarly on the msx. Haven't tried the original disk yet since my msx is stored away for a while. But most likely it was unfortunately canceled to make some deadline or something like that.
