with arrow on keyboard for control we can see this :
1- a bit of inertia even after we stop pressing key
2- double arrow click makes the move 2x speed with associated 2x inertia

for sure you cannot have a circular tunnel. Never the less you could have some poligon rotating. In any case speed and frame rate would be critical for gameplay.

i was thinking in drawing almost circles in screen 2 or 4 or 1 with predifined chars,
Lets consider a 3x3 matrix of chars we could limit the possibilities of vicinity to the following

XHX XHX HXX XXX XXX
XHX XHX XHX HHX HHH
XHX XXH XXH XXH XXX and so on ...

X is background
H is the circle going through the little matrix.

the goal is to select the center char to be put depending on the neighbor'ones.
in the first case we want to draw a vertical line accros the matrix then the middle char
will be vertical bar ; in the second case the char will curved in the bottom to the right;
and so on ...

so we discard the following case, for instance:

XXH

Yes! it can be done!
It is a matter of scaling resolutions (maybe passing to tile based modes) but it can work.
Who wants to port it?

Does not look as good as the Flash based version and a lot of cut down... Now as smooth, low res and no rotating obstacles.

I guess something like this could be done in Screen 3 or tile mode... Not sure what a wireframe a la Elite might look like ?
