Guys,

Has any of you used or even have a copy of GRED screen 2 tile editor? It is one of the best screen 2 editor I have ever come across. I couldn't find an English version of it on the net. I know it exists (I had a copy that got lost)...

Gred?, never heard about it before...it's a native MSX app, right?

Here is the splash screen of the application. Yes, it's native. It was written for MSX1 back in 1988 a Tandem Group. (I could not find any references to them on the net)

Although the title is in English, all the menus and the help screen are in Russian. I was looking for the English version of the program. No luck so far.

Can you put it "on line"?
Translation is only a matter of trying the program...

The program is fantastic. I will be happy to put it online. Is there a place on msx.org I could upload it to?

BTW, if I do not find an English version of it, time permitting, I could translate the menus myself. There aren't many of them. I developed a few games with the help of this editor in the good old days when I was a kid Smile

As an example, I extracted patterns and the pattern matrix from Konami Knightmare. Smile

coldbreeze: what about copyrights 'n stuff? Is that Tandem group a buncha' Russian sceners, or a real company? Is there any document/website where the original authors state that the software is now as free as a bird? If it's really free I think MRC can host it.. but you may know the boring but frequent drill about warez/legality here.. Tongue We won't stop you from hosting it yourself, but if it's not free software we can't have links to it in these forums.

..yes.. boring.. we know.. Tongue

Hi wolf_. Good question! If I remember it right, they were a bunch of enthusiasts at the time, but never incorporated as a company. The trouble is that I cannot find any traces of them on the net. So the program seems to fall into the abandonware category. It's always a tough call. I fully understand your concerns.

Nice find! I remember using it in the 80s/90s. I believe it was developed in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. It came on a few floppies with many other programs developed there. I don't remember exactly what the collection was called. There were few of them over the years.
