Hi, guys. Recently I came across the enhanced Vampire Killer SCC version and I got curious. It was made by @janvv and he said he reverse engineered the SCC player from Nemesis 3. He also said he made all new music using an MML-like notation which he then compiled to Konami's format.

It seemed to me @janvv intended to make such information public, but I couldn't find anything about it. Plus, his Bitbucket repository can't be viewed because it's a Mercurial repository. I wonder if anyone has more information about the Konami SCC driver inner workings and is willing to share.

I'm actually interested in the entire flow, not only documentation on the Konami SCC driver but also some kind of tool that could export music to Konami's format (like @janvv's), if at all possible. But anything would be most welcome. Thank you in advance for your attention!

Apparently a huge snapshot was created by archive.org containing all mercurial repos: https://archive.org/details/archiveteam_bitbucket?and%5B%5D=...

The archive is in .zst format and comes with some meta files (which I’ve not examined) but hopefully the vkiller-SCC repo can be retrieved somehow...

That's worth a shot. Thanks for the tip! I'll certainly take a look.

EDIT: I spoke too soon. The archive is almost 39GB big and there's no way of downloading just a part of it. I won't be able to take a look so soon, but it's good to know there's the option, if it comes down to that. I'm just a bit disappointed that no one else seems to have any kind of interest on this.

Does it really have to be the Konami driver? I've seen some really faithful reproductions of Konami tracks using MGSDRV. As a bonus, you can also use PSG+SCC+OPLL that is, IMHO, the perfect combo.

And there's even an online MML editor here.

can mgsdrv be used inside of an application like a game? or it too heavy for that?

Jan van Valburg still might see the posts here of course.. Or you could try to post a msg / get his attention via YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, GitHub, or dig up his Activision work e-mail somewhere (and be bold) Wink

I found the cloned repo on my hard drive. Here's the archive: http://msx.in.ua/z/vkiller_scc.tgz

Great, I will try a conversion to git and upload it to bitbucket so it is available for everyone (until Jan wants to pick it up again).

Maybe upload to GitHub (or GitLab) instead? Where GitHub actively preserves code by even putting it in an arctic vault in case of disasters, Bitbucket / Atlassian deleted code without pardon. Not even keeping static copies around or anything. Atlassian is not to be trusted, and I can't recommend Bitbucket anymore for anything.

I did it once (on my previous job they were migrating repos to git), iirc i used the `hg-fast-export` tool, and it went without issues btw
