Some HDs may be detected as MFM or RLL, like this old Seagate, it appears to be right. Try other HD and see if the data change, or with the same hd, the data must be the same every time you restart the computer.
The only way to chech this is formatting and saving data to it...
JP, any news about hdprep? We need it to test our interfaces...
regards,
Silvio
Hi yesterday Egor said he is close to finished, hope it is done before the weekend.
The anxiety is killing me! :-)
How this subject finished? Is hdprep available ?
HI
Sadly no good news yet.
I spoke to Egor in ICQ on Wed 9 Feb, he said he finished coding hdprep and improved the rom a bit and would mail it to me. Ever since I have not been able to contact him and have not recieved a mail. Will keep you all posted.
Maybe there is someone willing to write hdprep?
Question who have a finished interface and are waiting for software?
I'm very interested in build this interface.
Of course, I understand that Sunrise is much better than this. But, this hardware is very simple to do, the components are easy to find and the cost is very low.
I think that is a good hardware to be developed and help the MSX community.
Understood the hardware it's very simple. Now, we must understand how the software works. A very good way to start is debug the rom.
Thanks to Egor for the interface idea.
JP, I have a Beer202 (built by DaBest) and was starting to write an HDPREP utility. Should I wait a bit longer?
No, please do not wait!
Searching for some info in the Internet, I found out one article that explains how the interface works: "How to connect an IDE disk to a microcontroller using an 8255".
This document includes info about how it works, IDE commands, limitation of 32 mb per volume, etc. It can be useful to those who want to write utilities for this interface.
Here is the link: http://www.pjrc.com/tech/8051/ide/wesley.html
Ok, JP, I started the FDISK for Beer interface.
