What is the best cost effective solution to use SD cards for storage on a MSX machine?
I've heard of the tapuino, but If I'm correct that loads at original tape speeds which doesn't add any real benefit of using an SD card.

Cheapest = SD Mapper and clones based on Belavenuto's design
Best user support/more tested = MegaFlashROM SCC variants
Best all-around, based on features and cost = Carnivore2
More feature rich, but costlier and/or difficult to get = Gr8net, Flashjacks, Sharksym's SD/MMC

for what it's worth it seems like the only people who have SD Mappers currently for sale are selling them for roughly the same amount as Carnivore2s are going for on ebay, just no free shippng on the Carnivores and you'd need a compactflash to SD card adapter but that's probably worth it for the extra features

Yeah, SD mapper price should be 1/3 to 1/2 of a Carnivore2.

What's wrong with just using a *compact flash*?

i guess i saw SD in the thread title and got tunnel vision. just using a compact flash would prolbably be easier or better Smile

Tapuino is for the C64.

CASDuino loads CAS files for the MSX but at faster than standard baud rates.
TZXDuino loads TSX files and you can adjust the baudrates (speed) but not all TSX files will load at the higher speeds.
MAXDuino can use the same hardware as the CAS/TZXDuino but is a combination of the two firmwares but depending on what hardware it uses you may lose some functionality.

Depending on your MSX, whether its an MSX, MSX2, MSX2+, Turbo R, you could try a Gotek to replace a disk drive or one of the various flash carts. Carnivore MFRSCC+, etc.

I looked online, most of these solutions are a little on the expensive side except for the MAXduino types. If it loads faster than normal tape speeds, it looks like that might be a sweet spot for me.
I use MSX (1)

If you happen to have an Android phone with audio jack, you may want to take a look at MSX2Cas. However, both MSX2Cas and MAXduino will only give you access to tape games. A Carnivore2 will allow you to play (mega)roms as well.

Thanks! I'll re check Carnivore 2 as well.
