There are fakes but they are obvious like https://www.ebay.com/itm/392188488327
I didn't notice the wider DIP64 package and bought them but when I got around to using them I noticed they where just painted as V9958, if you scratch the top they are revealed to be just M680000P8 CPUs and maybe dead ones from a very quick test I did.

I got one of those too, from a seller that calls himself adeleparts2010. I also bought two AY-3-8910's from the same seller, both are fakes. I got my money back, but they're still selling these fake chips.

What is the problem, if fake chip works properly?

A fake AY-3-8912 let the magic smoke out from my Tiki 100. Luckily it was quite easily repaired, but that was just that, luck.

Be careful with the fake chips. I bought 6 fake v9958 and it seems like the package of toshiba 68000

Check for yourself:

This is leading to a price dispute. My first v9958 was about 10 usd some months ago... today I got a quote of 111 usd from utsource.
