Hi all!

I put a HxC Floppy emulator in my Philips NMS 8255. Actually a dremel was not used that much, I just wanted a good subject headline Some polymorph plastic was much more important part of the modification, but that would not look so interesting in the subject

Yes, it is working of course! Theres too little light here and my camera sucks so I can't take a good picture with the LCD on - but I put a bad one for proof online ;-)

There was a lot of work involved indeed, especially since I didn't know at first how exactly I'm going to do this

The buttons are for choosing the disk image and drive (A/B), connected to the front panel header. There are buttons on the PCB itself, too.

Great job man! I was having the exact same idea. Great that it actually works. My A drive is dying out so when it happens I will trow in a HxC in as a spare. It looks really good.

Don't you think the unit can easily get 60 C inside ? In some parts maybe ? In this case your instaMorph will melt down. Dunno if it's a good idea using polymorphic plastic for computer cases.

retrocanada: Yes, the thought did occur to me... we'll see ;-).

I think most parts with the heat will be on the MB, and, there is some distance to them - and 62°C is quite high in the end (too hot / nearly too to touch). I don't think it will get that high, but I do think it is possible. After all, these are not modern PC's, so the components don't generate that much heat (well, if someone tries this with some 7MHz modification, there might be even some more heat). So, indeed using polymorph as a general rule might not be wise, but I didn't have a choice with this (well, if someone knows where to get some good plastic or other material to work on...).

If it will get too hot, I will notice it warping though so there won't be any permanent damage. It wont get liquid and fall on the MB even when over 62°C or anything like that.
