National FS4600F disk drive

I recently got a National FS4600F and its disk drive is not working. I unplugged the drive expecting to see a bad disk belt but to my surprise this drive is completely different. It seems to be beltless but it also doesn't have the 'endless screw' that the Sanyo drives have.

Does anyone here have any experience with this kind of drive? Currently it seems dead - when I type files the red light does not come up, no noise, only the "disk offline" error message returns. I ensured that cables are connected. Any tips?

My National FS4600F also had a drive problem, the readinghead was broken. Of course it is hard to tell what's wrong with your drive but you can replace it with a new one. It has the same diskdrive as the Philips NMS 8250. Bas (Repairbas on this forum) has new replacement drives for sale.

Thanks kwilting. Do you know if there is an easy way to adapt a regular PC floppy drive to work with this computer?

Seems a Mitsumi D357 or compatible; so the answer is yes and no, the replacement is easy as it has a 34pin connector (you'll need to mod the cable or the drive tho) ; but you must to cut the 4600F case in order to fit as good as possible the new drive...and usually the PC drives doesn't fit very well...
