Hi,

I have been playing with my new OCM. I was able to upgrade to kdl 3.3RC3, install the SD card with MSX-DOS 2.31 and start a rom through romload. However I run into some issues/questions:

1. When starting a disk image through EP.COM, the image is loaded, a reboot happens but then One chip MSX behaves strange. E.g.: When I use Sunrise Magazine #14 disk image I see the picture of the Sun coming up 9ALTHOUGH VERY SLOW) but after that black screen. Sometimes it looses also the VGA signal. Similar things happen with all the demo/magazine/music disk images I have (from the MCCM Millenium). Any idea how I can fix this?

2. I am not sure which latest versions of MSX-DOS 2 I should use. There is a 2.44 and the one I have now is 2.31. I am not sure the newer one will work on my OCM. Can you advise on which MSXDOS 2 version I should best use. I like to have it also the autocomplete command feature.

3. Is there somewhere a MSXDOS 2 package containing all handy utilities like unarchiving programs? What other MSX DOS software should I use?

4. How can I set a PATH in MSX DOS so I don't need to type a full path when I use for example ROMLOAD.COM?

5. Which "hotkeys" keys are there for using the OCM/KdL version?

I hope you can help out. Thanks.

2. COMMAND2.COM and MSXDOS2.SYS have different version numbers; use COMMAND2.COM version 2.44 from tni.nl (that’s the one with tab completion), for MSXDOS2.SYS version 2.31 is fine.

4. In AUTOEXEC.BAT, you can write SET PATH=A:\;A:\UTILS;A:\MM;A:\VGM etc.

5. F12 is switch CPU speed. The others I don’t really use a lot. F9 or F8 is the select key I believe, you need that one sometimes. Iirc there’s a short manual in KdL’s OCM-PLD Pack v3.2, refer to that.

Thanks Grauw.

Succeeded in patching the orignal MSXDOS 2 to 2.44 on the OCM CD-ROM.

You have any idea what's wrong with point 1? Do demo disks work with your OCM? Which disk load program do you use?

And another thing: The keyboard and such works fine but somehow the "\" is shown as a Yen sign. You have that too? Can that be fixed?

The yen sign is used as backslash on Japanese computers.

And how do I get rid of the Yen sign in MSDOS2 and see a \ instead?

The Yen sign is normal on Japanese MSX computers, e.g. MSX turboR has it as well. There are builds of the KdL firmware with a backslash as well iirc, if you want it. Maybe not for the RC yet though, look in the 3.2 package if that’s the case.

Some discovery from myself on the first point: Several demo's seem to switch to 50HZ and the OCM doesn't like that: The signal on the VGA connector is lost. After pressing PrtScr 3 times (that switches the OCM output to VGA again) I get the VGA signal again but the music also starts to play faster (probably because the OCM switched to 60Hz).

What is funny though is that when I put in a music module same thing with the VGA happens and when pressing PrtScr 3 times again I get the picture but now instead that the music goes faster, it is too slow with the Music Module.

Is there anything I can do so 50Hz output is supported next to attaching composite/RGB (like to use my VGA)?

@Grauw
Yes if I remember right there is only 1 RC build. Then I wait for the next official release with all the builds.

Fixed point number 1 with the help of kdl. You have to set ds3 off if you only want 60Hz.

I have another issue now though: I try to mount a disk with ep.com like this:

ep moon.dsk e:

Then I get a message that it's a illegal device and the disk is not assigned to the drive letter. What do I wrong here?

Hey -Neo-,

I am getting the same "illegal device assignment" message here in my Zemmix. Have you found the solution for the error?

best,
