Hello everyone, I have this Toshiba HX-F101 external floppy disk drive and I have changed the floppy for one pc. The change is because I did not read anything, I also wanted to convert it to DD 720kb, because it is SD of 360Kb. The case is that it carries an eprom 27128 in the cartridge that connects to the MSX computer. I have tried with a thousand roms recorded in several eproms 27c256, dubbing them making a copy of itself with the command "copy / b ..." to fill the eprom. In the cartridge I put a socket and click the original works. When I change the rom chip for those recorded in eproms 27c256 do not work ... I have fed with GND or 5V pin 27 of the eprom to select the first or second half of the eprom and nothing ...

P.d .: Do not ask me about his original 27128 without the C, because I put it in the programmer and read it. Save the content in a file and after that erase it. My idea was to reprogram it with another bios rom that is DD of 720kb, but my recorder Willem does not program it, neither to vpp 12,5v-21v-25v and 15v. I have ordered some eproms 27c128, but a priori the pinout is the same as 27c128 ... I do not understand anything !.

Disk roms have there own adresses for side select, drive select and motor on ,etc.
Only compatible controllers WD 1793,2793 from sony philips yamaha and victor (jvc)
are interchange able.
Hitachi Mitsumi Toshiba SVI Daewoo are not the same.

Looking at the wiki page, it seems like there is a WD2793A on the PCB, at least for the Japanese unit.

@Hokuspokus

Which variation of the HX-F101 do you have? And are you sure it was actually single-sided?
I'm asking as the information about the various models is confusing, and the wiki may not be completely correct.

Also, did you try to load the original ROM into openMSX to see if it works there? Just find another FDD that uses the same chip, and copy its XML file and modify to point to your ROM.

Here are some external FDDs supported by openMSX that use the same WD chipset:

Mitsubishi_ML-30DC_ML-30FD.xml
Philips_NMS_1200.xml
Philips_VY_0010.xml
Sanyo_MFD-001.xml
Sharp_HB-3600.xml
Sony_HBD-50.xml
Sony_HBD-F1.xml
Sony_HBK-30.xml

My floppy disk drive is a Toshiba HX-F101PE. It has the WD2793A chip on the board. The drive was safe with simple density, because when executing the call format command, only the A / B floppy disk option exited. Apart from all this when you remove the floppy, only had a head on the bottom.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation.

I have managed to make the bios of the Sharp HB-3600 work and the disk basic comes out, but the floppy disk drive is not started with the command "files" or the "call_format".

The Sharp HB-3600 could have other slot based adres for the Controller as said earlier.
The Toshiba HX-F101 has Controller adres from slot xx adres h7ff0 with no mirror.
This is as expected not the same as Sony,Yamaha or Philips.
Resulting in working rom but no drive activity. This is why emulators are "sh*t" they emulate !
