Is there an english guide to setting up Sofarun? I have a MegaFlashrom SCC+ SD and would like to get it setup to boot straight into Sofarun rather than MM.

I'm still new to MSX and unsure how to get this up and running on my Megaflashrom SSC+SD.

Thanks!

Those instructions don't tell you how to create a new ROMdisk to flash the MFR, nor do they explain what your autoexec.bat should look like. I was getting conflicting advice in that thread so in the end I wound up not installing Sofarun.

Then, you should read the MFR-SD Manual and you should learn how an AUTOXEC.BAT works... and, of course, you could read the Nextor User Manual

None of that addresses my concerns. I'd appreciate some actual pointers as opposed to vague advice pointing to manuals which may or may not be related to the problem at hand...

Vague advices?

If you read the Nextor User Manual, you'll see that with MAPDRV, you can put the ROMdisk file and modify it. There, you 'lleva find too, that creating and empty file NEXTOR.DAT in the SD and that partition will be A: drive.... With that, you dont need the ROMdisk and you can modify directly any file....

If you read the MFR Manual, you'll see how to flash the ROMdisk.

Vague advices? O think that you are the vague....

ApolloBoy, a saying goes “you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” Big smile.

From my point of view it is simple, 1. copy the contents of the ROM-disk on the SD card, 2. read the SR.TXT installation instructions and copy it to the SD card as well (e.g. to a SOFARUN directory), 3. erase the ROM-disk and just use the SD card from now on. Optionally 4. to auto-start SofaRun, edit the autoexec.bat that you copied from the ROM-disk and replace the “MM” command with “SOFARUN/SR”.

But, I am used to MSX and working with MSX-DOS (and MS-DOS) from childhood, so for me this all comes naturally… If you have specific questions when you can’t figure out a certain part, please ask.

p.s. I wouldn’t try to create a new ROM-disk, it’s just extra effort and more complicated, for little gain (I’m not using one either).

Grauw is right... I would say ROMdisk is just left over from the time when early MFRs didn't have SD functionality. Best way to handle it is to delete it for good.

The ROM-disk is a nice way to make the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD work out-of-the-box with zero user configuration, and is also pretty fool-proof since you can’t delete system files. So it’s a good starting point for people who haven’t used MSX before. But if you want to break out of the box, it’s not very useful to keep it around Smile.

Ok, another question.

Following your guys instructions, I copied the contents of the Romdisk to the SD card and then deleted the Romdisk.

The machine boots up off the SD card just fine to MM. I deleted the MM line in the autoexec and added SR.

Machine boots to Sofarun just fine.

I have my games in both a large zip file and individually. I can browse the zip files just fine and select a game to flash.

And regardless if I select a rom from the zip file or one that isn't zipped, I get this kind of message:

At this point the machine is locked up. Pressing A or B on the controller does nothing. Same with spacebar, return or Esc key. I have to reset the machine to recover.

I have a Sony HB-F1XDJ with Megaflashrom SCC+SD

Using MM I can flash any of these roms just fine. So I am thinking something in Sofarun isn't configured correctly.

Thoughts?
