I donot have to guess
200 Moonsounds version 1
100 Moonsounds version 2.0
75 Moonsounds version 2.1
It was not the question, but interesting numbers!
Sunrise, what are the sales figures for Gfx9000?
I am sure that you have player mostly MSX1 games if you count the total MSX gaming hours in your whole life.Actually, no ^^;
A minimum system requirement would be MSX1 32K RAM. 99% of the MSX's people actually own have at least that, I think.
msx 2
128 ram
scc.fm-pac,music module.
dos
midi
tmt network card
For irrelevant I held scc
Why would SCC be irrelevant?
there are still games being made for this soundchip.
In some occations I think it's better to use this chip in stead of e.g. a moonsound.
-Scc can really sounds good for msx games (see konami)
-operating the Scc almost takes no processortime
-Scc has a great atmosphere
MSX2+
7MHz
Internal RAM : 128k
External RAM : 2048k
SCC
FM-PAC
MSX-Audio (32k)
Moonsound (128k) (getting 512k/640k is no problem at all)
GFX9000
IDE interface
DOS2
CD-ROM
CompactFlash
Slotexpander
RS-232
Well, but then again, I guess I'm no 'regular' user ^_^.

Actually, my MSX project requirements are the following:
-MSX1
-16 KB VRAM (standard)
-8 KB RAM (minimun specified in the MSX standard, never seen any machine with less that 16 KB)
-cartridge slot
-PSG
-3,54 MHz clock
And the people that have seen it say that it is really fun to play and the graphics aren't bad at all. Sound is not done yet.
Part of the purpose of these thread is to find out what kind of hardware people and the determine for what requiremnts a developer can make it's product. There is already a lot of software for "light' msx computers, but not a lot of soft for "heavy" msx computers. He we didn't buy all that hardware to play yet another msx1 game !!
Even ANMA was critisised (ok, in public on FDD2 only afaik ) for doing msx1 stuff back then.
Ditch the msx1 pls even the msx2 is history already, do you really want to go the PRE-history route ?
Rosby is indeed a great first-generation MSX defender ^^ But I think that we should use the more powerful MSX technologies, just like the Moonsound or the V9958 screen modes.
I read some time before that 19.200+ color modes can be used as screen background with 16 color sprites, that would be cool for shot'em up games, for example. These modes weren't used so much because people tried to draw directly in them, besides compresing 16 bit graphics. Oh, at least that is what I read at MRC forums. Most of games requeires MSX2, and just because of that, I think that we haven't seen yet the true potential of the MSX (yeah, you may include a V9990 as well!).
But do not misunderstand me. I love the MSX 1 as well, and about new developments, I think that Bombaman is a great example to follow.
I agree with that, but I think that MSX1 potential is also missused. Has anybody seen a game like the Nemesis saga, Golvellius or Maze of Galious lately? There are still lots of good things to do with an MSX1. I'm still far away, but I am progressing.
Anyway, and just to not consider me an old-fashioned MSXist, as soon as MSXdev'03 concludes I will organize a different contest for higher configurations, and it will surely have a better (and bigger) prize. I have adquired a Turbo-R ST and it will be the 1st prize if we reach a determined number of contestants. Does this sound better to you? Prepare for MSXdev'05.
Kind regards,
Ed Robsy
