Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions
@TFH: exactly that or for instance the * Crush games. MSX needs some cool pinball game(s). Perhaps with G9K if too challenging on regular msxes?

That would make it to much of a niche product. With todays knowledge, it should be feasible on a MSX2 I think
Pinball Dreams doesn’t seem all too challenging on MSX2… just never done.
"screen 2 also is a tile mode"
1 byte of nametable can fill 8x8 pixels
this could make superfast polygons
if one manages to sort out the corner cases
The main problem would be squeezing two video buffers into VRAM
one can have two buffers in the charset mode mindset
render in halve a charset while showing the other halve charset
doublebuffering via the nametable
"screen 2 also is a tile mode" ...
I wrote a long response to this that I felt was too much of a digression from the intended topic. So I've relocated it to here.
One game I've never seen done well is Outrun. As in: decent controls, fast and smooth landscape movement, and colourful large sprites.
+1000
That game deserves a good port to the MSX ...
Furthermore, I seem to remember that a FM version of all the in-game music was recently done.
Another one that comes to mind is "Stunt Car Racer !
Pretty boring, if you ask me. Apart from the technical feat of making a 3D landscapes that moves along with your actions, I find no appeal in that game.
really?! you didn't like Stunt Car Racer?!?! OMG I spent soooo many hours playing that game on the Amiga! The appeal to me was that is was a game that took quite a while to learn how to control the car, how to control the speed, the turns, the damage, etc. quite a learning curve, but once you master it, it was very rewarding! But perhaps it's just that I like that kind of games, one of my other favorites from that time period was "4D Sports Driving"
From the 80s, any sidescrolling beat'em up would suck on the MSX, due to the need of many horizontal sprites. The "best" beat'em up for the MSX IMHO is Corsarios by Opera Soft, and it's still awful.
MAYBE if a beat'em up used the full color potential of the MSX and had higher speed, it would have decent gameplay, even with 8x8 movements.

Even the MSX1 would handle a good pinball game like Pinball Fantasies IMHO. Rollerball is a quite impressive pinball game even today and it uses only 16 Kbytes.
