Hi, everyone. Just reporting here: since yesterday I've been updating my SoundCloud page. I intend to post a new track each day, until I empty my backlog (which will probably happen at the end of February). Not all updates will be MSX-related, but most will, as is today's.

Yesterday's update: Thunder Cross - Great Battleship (VRCVI Version)
Today's update: Pac-Mania - Pac-Man's Park (VRCVII Version)

I was really amazed by the MSX1 Pac-Mania soundtrack on the PSG, made by the late and great Benn Daglish. Eventually I heard the original arcade soundtrack by Junko Ozawa, but despite the YM2151 being a fairly powerful sound chip, the original arrangements sound kinda flat and cutesy. I tried to combine the awesomeness of Daglish's arrangement with all the elements present in the original composition. I hope you guys like it. ;)

Another update: Valis: The Fantasm Soldier - Pinch Zone (VRCVII Version)

When I first saw the MSX1 version of Valis, I thought it interesting, but quite confusing. The soundtrack, composed by Shinobu Ogawa, didn't sound particularly good but seemed interesting, and not exactly bad either. Yet, a few years later I played the Mega Drive remake and boy, that soundtrack is awesome. I used it as main inspiration for this arrangement; despite using the Konami VRC7 sound chip, I always try to make my arrangements with an OPLL sensibility, I hope was able to get it across.

Very nice! Question: why VRC7?

Two more updates.

Yesterday's: F-Zero - Red Canyon (VRCVI Version)
Today's: Dragon King of Darkness - Crest of Hades - Theme of Leon (VRCVII Version)

The last one is from a 1986 exclusive MSX game by Casio, originally called 闇の竜王 ハデスの紋章 (Yami no Ryuou Hadesu no Monshou, approximately translated to King of Darkness - Crest of Hades). Since its original title is quite a mouthful, and maybe because at the time not many people knew what it meant, this game is better known in Brazil as simply "Knight Leon", probably after its main character's name and referring to the gameplay's similarities with Knightmare. I honestly never paid much attention to this game, but recently I kind of rediscovered it and thought its soundtrack deserved an appropriately epic remake. :)

@[WYZ]: Thank you for enjoying it! It feels very rewarding. :D

@Manuel: Thank you! I like the VRC7 due to the similarities with the MSX-Music sound chip. It has a few different internal instruments, but I usually try to make it sound as close to the OPLL as I can. Also, most of my recent work is on FamiTracker which, for me, is easier and quicker than the MSX alternatives. Nevertheless, I intend to transition exclusively to MSX-only sound chips in the near future, since Furnace Tracker supports almost all of them. I'm looking forward making more music that can be played on real MSX hardware.

Yesterday I mistakenly uploaded an old track, and did it too late so I couldn't upload another one. So today I have only two more updates.

Previous update: Tatsujin (Truxton) - Brave Man / Far Away (VRCVI Version)
Today's update: Konami's Soccer (2A03+VRCVII+MMC5)

I won't talk much about previous update since it's not MSX-related, but I'm kinda proud about it, so I wanted at least to acknowledge it. Some may notice it's heavily inspired by the PC Engine arrangement. ???? Now today's update is another MSX-exclusive one, a short Konami's Soccer medley. I always found the menu theme and the game fanfare fun and memorable, and I'm quite happy with how my arrangement turned out. I used both the Konami VRC7 and the Konami MMC5 sound chips for a wider, fuller sound.

Well done! Toaplan's OSTs need to be covered from time to time for great justice.

All Toaplan music are belong to us. Smile

I fully intend to cover more Toaplan music, of course. Zero Wing is the low hanging fruit at the moment. Big smile

Another two updates.

Yesterday's: Mega Man IV - Dr. Cossack Stage 2 (VRCVII Version)
Today's: Hyper Sports 3 - Bicycle Race (VRCVII Version)

Won't say much about yesterday's update, just that it's the coolest tune in that soundtrack. These arrangements use the Konami VRC7 sound chip again, and again I tried to make them sound kinda MSX-like. The Bicycle Race theme from Hyper Sports 3 is, of course, pretty short, so I looped it three times. The arrangement is inspired by the SCC version (from Konami Game Collection vol. 4, not the original one).

The queue is almost at the end.

Yesterday's update: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Ice Times (VRCVI Version)
Today's update: Ys: Ancient Ys Vanished Omen - Palace of Destruction

I'll just talk a little bit about yesterday's update, because it's something I usually don't do: a mashup. In this case, I mixed the Ice Cap Zone Act 1 theme with the previously unreleased Jetzons song Hard Times. Both were composed by Michael Jackson's friend and band member Brad Buxer, and they're actually different versions of the same tune. The Jetzons were Buxer's former band and he dug up the old track to include in MJ's collaboration with Sega in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack. The collaboration eventually fell apart but some tracks still survived, although they were removed from later rereleases of the game.

Today's update comes from Ys. You know about Ys, by Falcom, right? Do I need to say anything about it? Maybe I could say its soundtrack, composed by legends Yuzo Koshiro and Mieko Ishikawa, is absolutely awesome. But then, if you've seen any Ys game, you already know this. So I'll just say this arrangement is inspired by the original PC-8801 version, and uses the Konami VRC6 sound chip for extra pulse wave crunchiness.
