The new revisions of SDmapper have 1MB that can be used in RAM, MegaRAM or BOTH together (512Kb each)! Price is also very competitive, starting at 55 € here.
That’s real interesting, the new mode to split the memory solves my main issue with the original version. I see a wiki page is already available, great, I’ll be able to find it back if the topic comes up again (as it does often :)). I think for people who find the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD or Carnivore2 too expensive and don’t need their extra features, or if they are out of stock, this can be a pretty good option.
I hope in time all suppliers will switch to this new design.
Seems im not the only user that thinks they are overpriced unfortunately. Ive asked for and got a refund via E-Bay/PayPal and am leaning towards a Carnivore 2 or MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD. Cant find any stock for these though and TBH they also seem overpriced. I may just end up going for a SD Mapper with 1Mb. Again overpriced for what it is but wasting £40 or so doesn't feel as bad as wasting £100+
I finally received the SDMMR 1024K!
I'm having problems getting it to work actually. I tried it on 2 machines (Yamaha CX5mII/128, and Panasonic A1-WX) and the behavior is the same.
Most of the time I just get a blue screen (dip switches 1:down, 2:down, 3:up, 4:up)
If I put the dip 3:down, it boots to MSX DISK BASIC. I don't see any boot up messages about the SDMMR (I think I'm supposed to see that). I think this dip configuration is with the ROM off, so I think the ROM might be corrupt.
I don't see the LED light up at all. It has a SD card inserted (the one that came with the purchase). And when I check the content of the SD card on PC it does contain files. I can't remember how but sometimes I do end up in MSX DISK BASIC when dip 3 is up, and if I do CALL FDISK with a new sd card inserted it just freezes.
The dip switches 1 and 2 works I think, as on the MSX boot screen I see different RAM sizes (64KB, 5??KB, 1088KB)
Anyway, I tried all switch combos. I never see the "SD Memory Mapper/Megaram 1024K" boot screen.
I either get a blank blue screen freeze (I need to reset the machine), or goes into MSX DISK BASIC (not Nextor).
No LED. CALL FDISK either freezes or Syntax Error.
